Blizzard, I am begging you; whenever we’ve closed the way to the Shadowlands after the expansion is all wrapped up, make it so we have to ask the Spirit Healers or Bwonsamdi to take us to the Shadowlands. Get rid of the portal, make it so that outside of the story quests the only way to get there is to die.
I don’t think it would be all that hard to implement either… Asking a spirit healer to take you there isn’t too far off from clicking on a portal… The difference is you are revived without a resurrection sickness debuff.
Something to consider: What would stop people from abusing this to travel faster? Just fly up high, drop to the ground, go to the Shadowlands and then you can take the portal to Orgrimmar/Stormwind… My solution to this would be to have the area you are brought to be relatively far away from the portal to Orgrimmar/Stormwind, much like the Garrison hearthstone being far from Ashran. A counter-argument to that though is we can already do that with our Dalaran hearthstones.
What I want though is this… Make the portal to Orgrimmar/Stormwind a one-way trip with no portal back… The only way back should be by dying. If the Shadowlands will be left behind and hard to access again in-lore, I don’t want a repeat of Draenor where we just have a portal because game mechanics demand it… There is an easy solution, and that is by letting us get there via getting ourselves killed!
Portal: Boring, uninteresting, doesn’t make a lot of sense, just another lame portal among all the other temporary pit stops we call expansions.
Dying: Interesting way to get there, immersive and still convenient, builds upon the world in a way that makes perfect sense.
If you are to insist on keeping the portal however, I want to at least get this across; it will be a damned shame if the afterlife exists in this game and you are unable to get there by dying.

Spirit person as a portal is a good idea but implementing it properly is key. Like Life was saying, getting there through suicide can make some uncomfortable.

The entire point of our player characters in Shadowlands is that we are the first living mortals to ever enter the Shadowlands.
Also if we died we’d go straight to the Maw and get trapped there. We wouldn’t have a physical form either unless everybody is forced to reroll their race to one of the Covenants.
Why would people do this when they can Hearth to Dalaran on the broken isles and go to Stormwind or Orgrimmar? Or set their standard hearthstone to anywhere with a portal? Or use a Guild Cloak to teleport?

I mean Bwonsamdi has a convenient express route hole behind him/under him in his temple. Right now he won’t let you jump without snatching you but in the future, let us jump in that sucker to escape this prison of a world!

You’re going into shadowlands alive. It’s the only way actually to allow forsaken, void priests, priests, paladins and demon hunters to enter SL
I know we’re going in alive, but what about after the expansion is all wrapped up? Will we have sealed the way for the living to reach it? Will it be like Draenor all over again, where canonically we can’t just go there with a regular old portal? The point I made at the end still stands as well…

As for that maw point brought up earlier, will that still be the same after we’ve dealt with whatever problems the Shadowlands have? Maybe we won’t be sent to the maw after Shadowlands’ story is wrapped up?
As for it not making sense for Demon Hunters… I can kinda get that, but I feel like the way they die already kind of contradicts their lore, because none of us get sent to the Twisting Nether to be revived… We just release spirit like always and go back to our body.
I don’t think people would “abuse it” for faster portals. If they wanted to they are really spending 20-30g each time for the durability to gear.
Definitely not a lot but it would add up if someone wanted to do it constantly.

Why? The veil between the worlds has been torn open. We can literally walk over there.
Because I imagine it won’t stay open forever, similar to how the way to Draenor didn’t stay open.
Plus, it’s the in-universe afterlife being put in-game… Why the hell wouldn’t we be able to go there by just dying?
