Blizzard,
Let’s talk about the Aqueous Reliquary, the item that required to form an essence drop from the new Eternal Palace raid.
I play a tank and run mythic+ dungeons with a close group of friends. We have no claim to be the greatest, but we try to push ourselves as high as we can. Stepping into the role of tank has been a relatively new thing for me (for the longest time I have almost exclusively played a healer) and I have been enjoying it immensely. However, I recently stepped away from raid healing due to burnout and I don’t feel comfortable (or confident) enough to tank for pug raid groups in higher difficulties.
The essence that drops from raid provides a potent damage reduction cooldown on a one minute timer and is thus one of my best in slot. I was willing to run raid finder in order to earn it, however, I leaned that the drop rate of the Aqueous Reliquary is one per wing off the last boss.
Let’s have look at the timeline (assuming the item is a guaranteed drop):
Week 1 (July 16 – wing one release) – 1 essence can be earned
Week 2 (July 23) – 1 essence can be earned
Week 3 (July 30 – wing two release) – 2 essences can be earned
Week 4 (August 6) – 2 essences can be earned
Week 5 (August 13 – wing three release) – 3 essences can be earned
That is 5 weeks, more than one entire month to earn just rank 1
Now let’s take a look at the other ranks:
Rank 2 requires 18 Reliquaries – at 3 per week, that’s an additional 6 weeks.
Rank 3 requires 27 Reliquaries – at 3 per week, that’s an additional 9 weeks
The total number of weeks to earn all three ranks therefore is 20 weeks, or approximately 5 months.
I understand that part of the purpose of the essences is to try to encourage people to participate in content that they may be uncomfortable with or have not tried before. That’s fine, however, there is nothing reasonable about this timeline. More than one month for rank 1 is absurd, especially given how quickly other rank ones can be earned.
I’m not posting this to debate the merits of raid finder or its appropriate awards. I’m just here to say…this feels terrible. I know this won’t get a response, but I’m very upset. Five whole months. This is so discouraging and makes me question whether it’s worth participating in the content at all.
