Let druids shapeshift into any animal

I think Druids should be able to collect appearances from beast-classified npc’s in the world to use as their various forms. This could be done in a similar way to the Tame Beast ability used by hunters. For example, perhaps the druid casts “Ritual of Bonding” to bond with the essence of a wild animal. Upon completion, the creature’s appearance is added to the druid’s options at the barbershop.

First, this would give massively increased customization potential to what is perhaps the most appearance-limited class in the game - and with the benefit of not having to create any new models or artwork, since all of the models would already exist in the game.

Secondly, this would give a wide array of natural, unadorned animal forms - since even the simplest of current forms are still covered in Cenarion tattoos, jewelry, and other accessories. Like, what if you want to just be a big, furry grizzly bear without a choker necklace or leaves taped to your fur like current bear forms? Most animal npc’s in the world have very natural-looking forms that better fit a wild fantasy.

If appearance limits need to put on this for character silhouette reasons in PVP, they could just make it follow the same pet-family specialization system that hunter pets use. For example, any animal family from the tankier “tenacity” tree could be used for bear/guardian form, whereas animals from the “ferocity” and “cunning” trees could be used for feral form. Then a druid’s spec is still distinguishable at a glance.

This isn’t my original idea, but I’ve heard it discussed before and wanted to add my two cents. There are LOTS of customization changes/additions I want in the game, but massively expanded druid forms are probably my #1 wish.

A giraffe ground travel form. My druid wants to change into a giraffe. :giraffe:

I’d rather they didn’t, honestly. Their forms were originally from Wild God spirits and they were unique, making them look like Druids, not just some rando mob.

I actually dislike the new Druid form glyphs for that same reason. They got lazy and stopped making things look unique for the class. I don’t want to see that continue.

I want a Moosekin form.

This would be an ideal opportunity to provide a Tasmanian Devil druid form. C’mon Blizzard, you know you want to…

I wanna be one of the whale sharks in Vashj’ir. Just floating in an enormous magic bubble.

I would rather step1 of “druid shapeshift improvement” simply be a better transition. Better, more fluid animation as you change from one to another. Instead of form A, puff of smoke, form B. That’s boring. It feels like a 1980s game when blocky pixels practically limited what you could display. We’re beyond that now- show the animation!

Step2: Instead of 1 cat, 10 cats. Tigers, leopards, lions, etc. For goodness sakes… TEN KINDS OF MOONKIN! The base forms need variation!!!

Step3: Increase overall number of animals to shift into.

That’s how I’d do it.

Blizz: Gives druids a variety of new forms

Players: Blizz is soooo lazy

Lmao y’all are absolutely ridiculous

Do tell, what other class can take the appearance of, a bird, a bear, a cat, a boom chicken, an orca, a stag, with variations based on race and achievements, go head, I’ll wait.

Yes please. always thought it’d be cool to be like the druids in wailing caverns. also always wanted a raptor form too and thought maybe zandalar would give us that but nope (travel form doesnt count)

you can’t tame that … it’s another druid

Let druids do whatever they want.

They just mean they’re limited in their appearance when they can only pick a few models while every other class has the option of hundreds of different looks with transmog

Honestly I don’t think its too much to ask to get more form customization for druids. I mean i feel like worgan druid form should have already been reworked in the wake of new druid classes getting unique forms. There’s a flame kitty form but no other flame forms to match it. I dont even play druid but it seems pretty deserved at this point

I’d love for that. My friend and I already RP druids can take on any animal form. It would make sense for a druid to look like a natural animal. As cool as some of the druid forms, I’d prefer something that clearly looks like an animal you would see in the wild.

So can Druids.

This is complicated because druid forms have refined animations and move set. Imagine devs creating animations for every single animal tamed by druid.

I don’t know who “y’all” is, because I’m fairly certain not many agree with me.

You also don’t seem to understand the point I’m making. Let’s think back to a time when we had Legion with some good class uniqueness. Or even glyphs back in Cata and Mists to give classes more interesting things that made them feel like their class was special.

When adding new druid forms, they were clearly distinct with jewelry, armor, symbols, etc that came from a source that made sense. This is now just a random mob and I can’t tell the difference between the deer in the field of Ardenweald and the druid.

I never asked for more druid forms, personally. I simply don’t want to see this fall into a pattern where our classes aren’t getting something specific that makes sense with lore anymore because they just start throwing generic things at them. We went from Legion philosophy to “just give them something, who cares” philosophy.

I’m sure very few understand or agree with what I’m saying here.

Bears and Feral never see their transmogrification unless they’re standing in a city or on a flightpath.

I mean I feel like some people like that though. At the end of the day it’s just more options whether they fit your specific tastes or not and I think that’s a good thing.

Yeah I agree that I don’t want this to become the new standard where druids never get super unique forms again but we don’t know their future plans yet.

That’s why I said I’m fairly certain many don’t agree with me. I personally don’t want to see a pattern of druids looking like random mobs. We’re a class and take shapes we learned from Wild Gods, not transformers who look at something and mimic it.

Edit: I agree with your last paragraph.
