Let’s pick a race/class combo for each expac

What race/class combo do you think is best fit for each expansion? Specifically, it’s about the race/class combo that you would take through each period of Chromie time to feel the most immersive lore-wise.

For me it’s the following:

BC: probably BElf pally and draenei shaman since historically these race/class combos bought a new class to each faction.

Wrath is all about DK so this class is a must. Race-wise I feel like human and forsaken are the most lore appropriate since these races suffer the most from the Scourge within their faction. Second picks can be DK from any race that has their main city on the Eastern Continent.

Cata seems fit for shaman since we’re traveling to the elemental planes and such. So may be orc and dwarf for their involvement in Twilight Highland too.

MoP is all about panda monks - easy!

WoD should be played through with an orc and draenei since it’s about their homeland. Specifically, Orc Hunter with a pet wolf to fit in with the Frostwolves and draenei pally for the Exarch Council.

Legion is all about DH - easy!

BfA should be played through with a KT human and a Zandi troll since they’re the main focus of the expansion. Class wise it’s the druid since their druid forms seem to capture the feel of the thornspeakers and loas perfectly. Second picks are KT shaman (tidesage) and Zandi pally.

SL seems to focus on DK again. This time only human DK seems to be in the spotlight. Second picks depend on the covenant: human pally for bastion, DK of any race for mald, NElf druid for fae, BElf DH for venthyr.

And of course dracthyr evoker is gonna be the main character of the next expac.

So what do you think. What’s your top pick for each expac?

This is a really interesting topic, I never really thought about this before! I haven’t spent tons of time in some expansions because I’m relatively new to the game, I only really started playing 3-4 years ago. I really love the lore, but just a disclaimer that I’m not a total expert.

Overall I agree with you on most of your choices, but here are mine as well

TBC: I would probably pick Blood Elf Paladin as well. Since Kael’Thas is so involved in the story, they just seem like a good pick - and I like the belf/paladin combo.

Wotlk: I totally agree, Human and Forsaken DK feel like the perfect choice. They both have so much history and pain associated with the events of the expansion.

Cataclysm: I’d also pick Dwarf Shaman, I feel like they capture the Cataclysm vibe.

MoP: Panda Monks totally feels like the clearest pick here lol. I do feel like you could also have fun with a Monk of any race if you wanted to as well.

WoD: I hardly played WoD so I feel particularly unqualified to make a pick here. I do think that Orc / Draenei makes sense though.

Legion: I’ve spent a ton of time in Legion, and since Legion has an emphasis on your class with the order halls and since I play a Warrior - I associate the class a lot with Legion. I also think of Varian a lot when I think of Legion, and that sort of reinforces the Warrior connection. I feel a certain level of awe or gravity to the idea of fighting an almost unbeatable force like the Legion with nothing but the steel in your hand. It’s sort of a romantic, heroic story to me - so for those reasons Warrior will always be my most immersive class for Legion. As for race, I don’t have a super strong opinion about it, but I’d probably pick Night Elf just for my personal connection to it.

BFA: I also think KT and Zandalari would be good for BFA. I’ve also got to throw in Gnomes for the Mechagon connection. I agree that Druid is a really good pick for KT and Zandalari, I love their Druid forms. For Gnome, I might pick a Rogue or Monk and RP as some kind of special ops Gnome ready for covert missions and/or hand to hand combat lol. I think it would be a fun angle since you spend some time with Kelsey Steelspark from the Gnomeregan Covert Ops.

SL: I think it would be cool to pick a race/class for each covenant. For Bastion I totally agree with Human Paladin. I also think DK for Maldraxxus is good, along with Warrior of any race. Night Elf for Fae is perfect, I feel like any class could work. I also like Blood Elf for Venthyr. I think DH could work along with Warrior and Rogue if you play it right.

I think Dracthyr will also probably be a good choice for Dragonflight whenever it comes out. I also like the idea of a Panda Monk who’d enjoy the nature and history it looks like we’re going to explore in the new expansion. I also would pick a Gnome or Dwarf of any class for the Explorer’s League connection, since they’ll be coming along with us on this new adventure.
