If you want to find these I’d suggest you mine Tin, Iron, Silver or Gold. That’s what WoW Head says Lesser Moonstones drop from.
There are other ways to obtain but those might take a lot longer.

Yea, I tried going through Charred Vale and around Desolace (tin, iron and siver) with no luck, I’ll try the nodes in Hillsbrad and Arathi, hopefully better luck.

In my experience Arathi is better for mining if you try to get every node.

As stated, Iron is your most reliable source. Don’t forget to open every chest you find. There’s always at least 2 that spawn in the graveyard wing of Scarlet Monastery. Bring a rogue since they may/may not be locked. Having them be an herbalist is also recommended since you can pick up the 3 Grave Moss/Kingsblood nodes in that area.

I play on East Coast PvP cluster 2 (Sulfruras/Herod et al.) Thanks anyway, I need 9 more to finish 3 Moonsteel broadswords and I am having zero luck finding any. Looks like I will have plenty of iron and tin. It’s funny I have two stacks of Black lotus and a stack of Arcanite bars but I can’t find some low tier gem that has limited uses.
you could do BRD and open the safes. they often have bags of gems with moonstones in it

I hadn’t even considered that but yeah. It’s an almost guarantee to get at least 1 sack of gems if you open all 12. Be sure to access from a rear corner and have Vanish ready for the final vault if you intend to open them all in one go!
