We’re talking about Battlegrounds here.
People who say things like “It doesn’t work; you’ll get one-shotted.” Most of them don’t play any form of PvP. As PvPers, we are used to playing both at an advantage and disadvantage. We enjoy one-shotting others and we also know very well that we will be one-shotted too (we don’t care, really).
I understand that PvE players might be worried about mandatory rewards being tied to PvP. So, let’s keep the rewards minimal: maybe a small amount of coins per win. No achievements locked behind it, nothing that makes it feel obligatory.
Or better yet: Remove the rewards entirely. Let those who enjoy PvP do it purely for the fun, strategy and competition.
Now, here’s the solution:
Let’s adapt a battleground similar to the Warsong Brawl with Power-Ups:
1st Power-Up: Power Swap
Temporarily swap your power level with a targeted enemy [Don’t scream at me yet, keep reading]. This is the main mechanic. If someone on the enemy team is insanely overpowered, this power-up acts like an “Uno reverse card”—turning the tide of the match.
2nd & 3rd Power-Up: Stat Manipulation
Temporarily increase or reduce all stats of a targeted enemy or ally by 10-50%. You can’t use this on yourself. You’ll need to be a team player and make strategic decisions for your team’s benefit.
4th Power-Up: Damage Reduction
Reduce all damage taken by 50% for a few seconds.
5th Power-Up: Freeze
Freeze yourself for 20 seconds, becoming immune to all damage. Useful for surviving a powerful opponent or holding the flag until help arrives.
6th Power-Up: Cooldowns and GY protection [Losing team]
All your skills have no cooldowns for 60 seconds, and you cannot be powered down or swapped during this time. This power-up can only be collected by the team being farmed at their graveyard. It appears after X teammate deaths occur within a short window of time.
7th Power-Up: Power Copy [Losing team]
Permanently copies the target enemy’s current stats and power level. This power-up can only be collected by the team being farmed at their graveyard. It appears after X teammate deaths occur within a short window of time.
8th Power-Up: True Sight
See all stealthed enemies within a wide radius for 40 seconds.
And so on…
Now, where does my power progression come into play if someone can temporarily steal it from me?
The temporary effects you collect, will have a bonus that scale with your base power level that you started the match with, rewarding you for your dedication and giving your team a small advantage on the powerups you collect.
The point is:
If the main concern is power disparity, we can address it through mechanics like power-ups. This keeps things fair, fun, and still allows for skill-based play without removing the sense of progression.
