Recently been leveling an alt through Legion to experience that classes story and picked up a profession along the way and I was reminded of how much…better the Legion professions were done. Each profession, at least crafting to my knowledge, had a questline associated with it that had you exploring the various zones as well as teaching you new things for your profession.
The gather professions also felt good in that you actually felt like your character was becoming more proficent in gathering the materials. You had different ranks of the skills associated with the gathered reagent and it allowed you to gather more of the reagent or did something.
There was no “Oh you need rank 3 leather and bones to have a shot at making a rank 5 piece of gear” you just…went out and gathered and then made your stuff. I like the talent system in that you can specialize at first, but I also miss the questline that was associated with it and I hope they bring that back next expansion.
Surely theres some kind of middle ground but idk at this point.
People still don’t have some of the rank 3 gathering skills. The drop rate for those was insanity and a perfect example of the importance of bad luck protection.
DF professions were fine to get going, but some of the patterns had idiotic drop rates and locations like the Elemental Lariat for example. Randos got lucky pattern drops at the beginning of the expansion and made 100 million gold simply because by getting lucky.
This 10000%!! Crafting professions succed donkey hindquarters in Legion, BfA and SL. Between my 10+ max level alts I think I made 5 gear items between all 3 of them. Bags, enchants, flasks and stirrups were all I think I bothered to make. Didn’t even level most of them beyond completing the darkmoon quests. I’ve interacted way more in DF, the rework was a great idea HORRIBLY implemented.
I actually like the professions on DF, and I’m a person who typically hates crafting in all its forms, actively ignores crafting, and barely does gathering. I’ve been far more engaged with the Crafting systems in DF than I’ve ever been in any MMO. I’ve been anticipating getting enough recipes and profession levels to actually use the Work Order system, and if professions continue like this in TWW I am more likely to engage in them, rather than flat out ignore it as I usually do in MMORPGs.
the only thing I truly liked about the Legion Crafting is how you got little snippets of Lore when learning new crafting recipes.
I think my favorite thing about Legion crafting was that Skinning flooded you with mats that were actually useless.
And I’m not talking the general “basic leather/scales sell for 5 silver apiece” level, you would get a bunch of claws and fangs that Leatherworking only needed for the Rank 1 or 2 versions of basic recipes, they weren’t needed at all for Rank 3 crafts beyond like, the “worse lust” drums (and they only needed 2). And you’d get hundreds from just looking at skinnable mobs.
I think I used like 30 and vendored about 10,000 of each before I dropped skinning entirely in favor of alchemy.
Dragon fligt professions are the biggest pain in the butt. I completely tuned out. This game is going in the worng direction as no one has time for such oppressive system–YES DRAGONFLIGHT PROFESSIONS ARE OPPRESSIVE NOT FUN!!!.
