The only thing I’m concerned about this race - is the lore. “The dunes are all our people know.”
But alas, the dunes were not always the dunes … They use to be a tranquil forest / jungle - The ‘Jewel’ of the Zandalari Empire. So where / what were the Vulpera then? I’d like if we could explore that aspect more - perhaps even find a Loa they were separated from (Love the Loa lore) and find out the ancient nobility of their race.
Perhaps they were sent by said-Loa to fight off the armies of Mythrax during his original invasion - and afterwards the lands where the Vulpera originally came from became inaccessible to return, due to the damage wrought by Mythrax or perhaps the Sundering separating their path under the waves? Would be interesting to dwell more into.
After seeing how they wasted the potential of N’Zoth, I’m rather glad they didn’t explore it more this expansion - and surely hope if / when they do explore these aspects they put in more effort and respect.
However, feel free to comment your thoughts, inspirations, ideas and more.
That’s a good point. Although I don’t think Blizzard really thought too much about the lore of Vulpera or the lore of them joining the Horde for that matter. I don’t have high hopes of them exploring Vulpera lore too deeply. They just wanted something cute and cuddly on the Horde and knew it would be a popular hit.
I still care about the lore though. And so do many others.
It’s rather saddening how they’ve disrespected it so much over this expansion; heck even Nobbel seemed rather irritated at the way they portrayed the N’Zoth defeat cinematic. I’m hoping they can learn from their ways, and stride back to their original jaw-dropping deep connections, cinematics and lore-inspiring gameplay.
Yeah, I thought that too. Will be intriguing as we dive more into it down the track.
I’m personally hoping we also see a stronghold of Nightelven civilisation that survived (Still in its glory), that perhaps also created another Well of Eternity.
Hmm, we don’t really see Vulpera in Zandalar much though - They’re more predominant in Vol’dun of which we don’t see any Kaja’mite there either.
On top of which, I feel it would be more intriguing and beneficial to lore if they were descended from a Loa like how the Furbolg were descendants of Ursol & Ursoc.
I’d bet that Vulpera lore doesn’t extend far due to the simplicity of their race’s background. nomadic people who survive on the very ideas of trade and use of anything / everything they can get their hands on. They’re not a race built upon history or kingdoms. I’d argue that the Vulpera live a very primal life of migration.
I don’t see a need of digging deep as they really are ground zero for any creative decisions. They can literally go anywhere. Whether to establish a real Vulperan society or remain these happy travellers wtih a knack for new experiences. They don’t claim any true arts beyond a show of shamanisn and maaaaybe strong rogue use as they’re ambush tacticians.
I agree. I hope Vulpera lore is expanded upon. Blizzard knew they would be popular. They are pretty easy to unlock. So in time, they may have a bigger place in the story.
As far as what facts I can glean from the current scattered bits of Vulpera lore:
The Playable Vulpera acknowledge a difference of opinion with other Vulpera who chose a sea faring life - they are called quitters. This acknowledges a division in their culture. It may even hint to Alliance Vulpera who are pirate themed down the line.
The Vulpera NPCs in Voldun also mention Vulpera across the sea. Whether they refer to a long lost homeland, or the previously mentioned sea faring Vulpera… I do not know.
Kiro took a hard line against the Alliance. At Rastakhan’s funeral, he says the Alliance has gone too far. Nisha says the Alliance are no better than Sethrak - and we know how she deals with Sethrak. The Playable Vulpera also make a joke about justice against the Worgen. So, they may bring some gumption and a spine to the Horde.
That is my summation of the current state of Vulpera lore. But as for possibilities… I will indulge in one. It is loosely based on the Gremlins movies.
It would be funny if all Goblins started as Vulpera and were turned into Goblins because they did not follow some ancient rules. Or if Goblins turned into Vulpera, like a reverse-Gremlin sort of thing. The specifics can be hammered out - but the general idea is that they are related in a similar way as to how Mogwai and Gremlins are.
There was another Night-Elf city that was mentioned once, I can’t recall the name that was North-West of the Well of Eternity. I’d like to see that one.
Lightforged Draenie are just Draenie lore that went through Naaru Blessing.
Void Elves are literally Blood Elves who embraced Shadowy / Void Magics, and were cosmically changed by a Void artifact.
Dark Iron Dwarf story has LOADS of lore.
As for Mechagnome, we got to dive into their origins, city, culture, and conflicts between their people. I would had personally liked if they explored the titan-devices they stumbled upon (Of what they build Mechagon upon) but perhaps we’ll hopefully explore that another time like Old-Ironforge eventually was. I’d like to see more Titan-like customisation features for both Dwarves & Gnomes, perhaps exploring those aspects of lore would be a good start.
And stating 'X thing doesn’t have this, so Y thing shouldn’t either’ is just a petty passive-aggressive statement to ruin things for others and not include features that would be both fun, enjoyable and more in depth for the game.
Thankyou for correcting me, I meant Zuldazar* where the prime source of Kajamite is amongst the continent.
Though, like I stated; I’d still prefer if the lore was linked to Loa than Kajamite. Although, that being said - If it turned out to be both, I wouldn’t complain.
I never said they shouldn’t get it cuz others didn’t, I stated that since others didn’t have much exploration during BfA, you’ll most likely not get your answers.
So next time, instead of doing a straw man, take a minute to read again and maybe try not to put words in my mouth.
Not to mention how stupid it sounds, ‘‘gone too far’’? It’s a war, and the Zandalari were the enemy, both sides have been waging war, Rastakhan got what was coming to him from allying with the enemy.
And even if people say ‘‘but they were not officially part of the Horde’’, well sorry not sorry, if you already give shelter and a base of operations to the Horde you’re the enemy.
Not to mention how bizarre the premise of the Alliance’s attack was. It was a “justified evil” but still intended to paint the Alliance as doing something morally questionable in an act of desperation but still came across as heroic.
I mean, the attack was justified but the premise of assaulting a sovereign nation and demanding their king to relinquish his throne is not. It’s an absurd order that no one would be expected to abide by.
Hell, if they would of asked, he Probably would of kicked the Horde out personally
