Legendary weapons are cool. Being the class that doesn’t get one this expansion is less so. How would you go about ensuring every spec has access to a legendary weapon while making as few weapons as possible?
Let’s find out.
To start with we need to give weapons to the specs with the least freedom. Most Hunter specs use ranged weapons, so we need at least one bow/gun/crossbow. Most Rogue specs use Daggers, so we need a dagger.
Until we get Tinkers or something, the Ranged weapon is unavoidably hunter-only. Daggers on the other hand can be used by any caster, so we’ll make it a single dagger with both Agility and Intellect, and an effect both Rogues and casters can use, such as reduced threat generation.
With hunters, Rogues, and all casters out of the way, we’re left needing one-handed and two-handed melee weapons.
A one-handed axe could be used by every melee class that uses one handed weapons, while a polearm could be used by any class that uses two hands.
So you could give everyone a special weapon without having to design something for every single class in just four weapons.
Gun for all Hunters
Dagger for most Rogues, and all casters.
1H Axe for dual-wielding melee and Tanks who use shields
Polearm for all 2-handed melee.
This is a very doable arrangement in a single expansion.
Although this is only a thought experiment, it at least indirectly taught me that demon hunters apparently aren’t locked into using warglaives. Do they actually have that freedom? Or is this a case where they can technically equip other weapons, but they actually need warglaives equipped to use most of their abilities?
Well yeah, like I said, I learned that they can indeed equip those other weapons…but I was wondering whether they’d actually be effectively usable, or whether it’d be like a warrior equipping a bow where they can’t actually do much with it besides auto-attack. I wasn’t sure whether their skills had specific weapon requirements or not!
I can’t say I enjoy legendary items… they just become mandatory dead spots on a character.
I like the idea of high quality weapon models like artifacts that gained appearances based on what you do in game. Just not the grinding aspect of them.
blizzard did this with the MoP legendary questline and the WoD legendary questline.
no one liked that (complaints that you were too far behind if you missed the previous raid tier quests)
then blizzard tried again with Naszuro and Fyralath - everybody hated that as well.
i think its best to just never have legendaries in this game again.
wow is a seasonal game, legendaries take too long to acquire, by the time you get it, the season is over (if you even are lucky enough to get the legendary before season ends).
also, getting a legendary doesn’t make your class OP, it makes your class underpowered and balanced around having the legendary… So your class is basically missing 4 or 5 talent points until they finally get lucky enough to acquire the legendary.
hopefullly my class never gets a legendary and if it does, i am going to throw that main away and never pick it back up until that expansion is over.
