Does anyone else feel that the bow is incredibly subpar? That is really is more of a glorified epic than a legendary?
In my opinion, it is probably one if not the worst legendaries they have ever created.
If they really wanted to make it legendary they should have:
- When you equip the bow you literally take slyvanas’s model, or a shadow hunter model at least.
- When in the shadow, all your spells take the shadow affect.
- Your auto shots turn into shadow shots, doing shadow damage instead of physical damage.
- The “on use” spell that’s there now replaces aimed shot and has two charges like aimed shot has now.
- Kill shot does additional shadow damage.
Now before you say this is OP and everyone would use it, that’s the point. Its a legendary, it SHOULD feel that way and everyone should want it.

The only way they’re going to make a Legendary that powerful is if every class has access to something similar.
As for being subpar, I think the AoE silence is real winner. I’m far more excited for the quiver than the bow, but would be super happy to get the bow.
But thats the whole point of it being legendary, is that it’s op.
They can tweak the aoe silence part, but leave the rest as it is.
The point is that if players are more excited about the quiver than a legendary bow, thats a problem they need to fix, right?

It’s already OP. The damage isn’t insane, but the AoE silence is a game changer for many. I don’t push super high keys and don’t do mythic raiding until later in a patch, so I’m personally more excited for the quiver. Top players, on the other hand, think the bow is amazing as it sits. Wailing Arrow in high Mythic raids and keys will be a godsend.
I think that’s why they did the bow and quiver as they did. Most players will be able to get the quiver and be excited about it, but the bow is intended for those that really push the envelope.
That’s just my opinion though. Your opinion is obviously different.

I mean, I completely get what your saying, and some extent, I agree. However, I disagree about it being op.
Just because it has an aoe silence component to it doesn’t make it op. That’s really only good for m+ and maybe pvp, that’s it. In boss fights, it’s garbage, especially since all the fights in this tier are more single target oriented. So the subpar damage it does is more relatable to an epic than a legendary.
Then, you have to think of the tuning aspect to things. Blizz never touched mm or bm during the ptr stage and when the numbers came out, ALL 3 hunter dps specs were bottom 5. Sure, they have buffed them but we still are not sure where mm and bm land in the ratings, most likely lower to mid, mid-range pack. The issue is that blizz tuned around the quiver AND the bow. So those who don’t get both are at a severe disadvantage than those who have one or both. On top of that, they both drop off the last boss and the last time I checked, not from lfr. So most of the hunter community will never see the bow and quiver drop even though the class is tuned around them.
What’s going to be worse, is trying to find a high key without the bow. Look out for the incoming “+15, mm or bm hunter, 1800+ io, must have bow and quiver.”
Good luck getting into high keys as a hunter without it.
The biggest issue facing Hunters has always been our uniqueness.
As one of only two classes that wear mail, we have fewer opportunities to trade while gearing up. Plate, Leather and Cloth all have several cross compatible classes with which to trade. This means Hunters historically take longer to gear up and are quite difficult to optimize if you do manage to get a decently high item level.
The fact that we are the only class that uses ranged weapons means those come even slower. Through all of 9.0.X, I got a single ranged weapon from the vault and zero drops in dungeons - and I ran a LOT of keys.
This is also where the argument that Hunters scale better with gear comes from. The class is balanced around optimal gear, just like everyone else, but we rarely achieve that status because of how gearing works.
I really wish they would have made Demon Hunters a mail wearing class to even it out a little. Tokens for weapons needs to return as well.
Oh, an addendum to my previous post about slow gearing.
This is also why Hunters, BM in particular, are dominant in arenas right now. There is no slow gearing, because you just use Conquest to pick and choose your pieces. Once you have a clear path to gearing up, Hunters are a force to be reckoned.
Yea, I get what your saying. It has always been hard gearing hunters, however, making mm and bm SOLELY reliant on 2 pieces of gear is just bad class design.
