Hello. I’m playing on EU, main paladin since 2007, both ret and holy.
What Blizzard did now with the legendary axe is a complete fail design of the game and here’s why (sorry for the long post) .
You cannot introduce Blizzard an item that only who’s raiding can have and also make a specific game spec for that weapon. This will completely destroy the balance in the game for a specific class or maybe even more classes, namely here ret paladins.
In season 4 the weapon will be mandatory for ret paladins. If you have it, you’re in S tier. If you don’t, you’re in C tier. This is just bad for the game. Now we’ll end up inspecting players joining the group, to see the gear they have on.
Why is this legendary axe so important for ret paladins ?
Because it removes the need to have an AOE oriented spec. Now you must spec in single target dps, since the weapon is doing by itself the AOE damage. This isn’t right, having items to auto-dps that are also changing the spec and completely the playstyle.
The worst thing is that it creates a huge gap between who’s raiding and who’s not, and even worse is that will create a handicap for the players who are only playing M+. Why we don’t have such items in M+ ? If we only play M+ must be punished ? Why this isn’t applied to PvP ? It’s written bad design all over the place, favoring one PVE activity over the other, well knowing that for many players there’s only the M+ option.
It’s not a min max thing, since the damage difference is of about 25% if you have the legendary equipped or not. I’ve tested it over the week with a similar ilvl geared skilled friend who has the weapon. On average, his damage is 25% higher.
Why this huge difference ? First the weapon auto damage, placed on 2nd spot as damage dealer. But more important the item level (495) - for ret paladins, all damage is calculated in formulas based on max weapon damage. Since this is the highest max dps weapon in game, it’s easy to understand why this is game breaking if you have it or not.
Today I was in group with a fotm 483 ilvl new ret and he still managed to do 15% more damage than me, having the legendary axe equipped.
Yea, I know. If you have the axe, you’ll laugh at me and point me to LFR to do the HC raid. I do not raid because I do not have the time, I’m also in a small social guild because we only do M+ content and this is quite the only way I’m playing wow. I will not pay my hard earned money to buy gold and boost myself in paid HC raids. No thank you. I already paid 200 USD to buy the WW expansion + year of wow sub. I will not pay real money to get items now. I’m 47 years old, with a busy job and family. Playing wow is a hobby and I’m doing it 1-2 hours every evening to chill with my real friends online, in wow.
Again, this is why I consider this axe as a failure. It is one thing to have it in 1-2 players on the entire server and it’s another thing to give it to everyone raiding. Who isn’t raiding, bad luck.
Yet, I’m doing the raid on LFR since the introduction of the Fryakk there, but I still didn’t get anything. Bad luck ? no. BAD DESIGN.
Anyone from Blizzard reading here ? Thanks anyway.
