The Fyralath acquisition has to be one of the worst of all time. Pure RNG drop off last boss does not work in a seasonal game that is modern wow. A lot of people are going to be unlucky and never see it till the end of the patch like a lot of evoker players did. That is the worst feeling any wow player could ever have because wow is a seasonal game that legendary is useless the next patch. Fyralath is worse in this situation because the classes that use it are clearly tuned around having it.
Devs might say but oh Thunderfury, Warglaives, and KJ bow were all pure rng drop off a boss. Let me tell you the difference, back then wow was not a seasonal game you were farming MC every week until TBC and Thunderfury would be bis all expansion. Warglaives you were farming EVERY WEEK even tho sunwell was out. Pure RNG drops that are extremely low like the lego does not belong in modern wow.
Next is the failure that is the bad luck protection tokens. These are not BLP they do nothing a random token that says hey your chances are increased for next week just trust me bro is not bad luck protection. For all the player knows each token is a .01% increase on a 1% drop. The token is just pure placebo. FF14 does BLP protection perfectly heres what you should of done with the token. after acquiring 8 Greaters from Fyrak you will receive the legendary. Thats still 8 weeks of waiting so either you get lucky and you get it before 8 weeks or not. That system right there works perfectly for a seasonal game.
Now here is a solution for a perfect legendary acquisition for modern wow, its simple and its something that has already been done before in wow, Its called Shadowmourne. A quest based legendary that is only for a handful of classes, its lore rich and the RNG time gate is all in the shards. Here is why the shards is a better system. There is a sense of progression when you loot the shards off a raid boss. instead of it being all or nothing off one boss. All you have to do to modernize this process is make the shards personal loot so it fits in with current wow.
I genuinely hope we never see something like the evoker lego or Fyralath again and if we do the only way I can see that system being fine is if that lego is bis for the whole expansion not something that is replaced two weeks after the next patch.

The axe has proven to be a poorly received feature of a patch that is already over. It reminds me of how they changed the drop rate of the love rocket. Zero response to the overwhelming negative roll out. I don’t have the axe and run weekly and have been farming blp tokens. What blizz knows and won’t admit is they don’t care as it means all us two handers increasing time played metrics by farming the boss weekly, farming all levels of raid weekly for blp tokens and then farming blossoms 10 times once we get it. Time played goes up, metric for thier bonuses - it’s not about us enjoying the game it’s about us playing thier game. I feel sick each week trying to get it and being disappointed

Couldn’t agree more, I’ve been killing Fyrakk on Normal since week 1 (I know embers didn’t start dropping till week 3), and heroic since the week of Christmas, gotten multiple greater and lesser embers and still nothing. Every week my hope diminishes more and more. I was so excited because I thought I was gonna be able to finally use a legendary weapon at tier, but now I’m starting to think that won’t happen. Doesn’t help that its one of the weaker legendaries too. But to look at it on the bright side, at least I’ll have a decent amount of placebo- I mean, BLP built up for War Within to make farming it for Xmog easier.
I genuinely hope that STR users never see a legendary like this again, I absolutely hate it.

Better farm all the heroic bosses for your ember. Not just last boss!

I agree, this whole thing is bad, bad, bad. They have continually had this attitude that this dungeon game is not about gear, seasons get shorter and drop rates keep getting worse or feeling worse. I know the argument you hear on here all the time is “gear is too easy to get”, “you all just want everything handed to you” and on and on and on. I play the game religiously and usually am fully geared by each season but that is thru sheer effort…period. Vault is lame, RNG is lame, drop rates are lame, time gates are lame and on and on. Truth is the way the systems are now the game is getting less fun (probably why most people in all 3 of the guilds I had been running with for years left the game) and more about the pretty pet or tmog than a sense of character growth, raid progression and power up. Some of the stuff is so fun but the grinds, time gates and whatever the hell they use to create RNG in this game (pretty sure it is just a general term they use for “screw they players, why should we care we are Blizzard and have never logged into the game we created”) is terrible. The hamster wheel is rusting and about to fall off for me. Just my opinion and not worth bashing me over, don’t care what your quips are just stating my own feelings. Sad since i love this game and have for over a decade.

Legendary acquisition is criminally bad and here’s a better solution:
Shadowmourne, Fangs of the Father, Tarecgosa’s Rest, Val’anyr, Hand of Rag, Thunderfury, *deep breath *, POTD, Ultimate Weapons…

Legendary Weapons → Make them avail to all classes at end of xpac with cool looks and abilities. Not RNG based…just a lot of work, and that’s it.
Do the work → Get rewarded for the work.
Not Win RNG → Then get to do the work.
Thunderfury is literally twice the RNG.

RNG necessarily isn’t a fun mechanic tho?

it can be.
if the raid had a mechanic where you couldn’t enter mythic without the axe, RNG wouldn’t be fun. But as long as you can complete the content without it, then the RNG is just a nice bonus.
Seems like you cant read but ill try again. it worked for Thunderfury and warglaives because wow wasnt a seasonal game back then you didnt stop clearing MC because BWL came out. you didnt stop clearing BT because sunwell was out you had a lot more time. Retail wow is very much season meaning if there was another raid tier after 10.2 the axe would be obsolete garbage worthless. RNG should not be used this way in modern wow.

You know the season is still going, right? Like this was a mid-season patch that dropped lol.
you know, I think you’re right.
what would it take to return WoW to a persistent MMO rather than a seasonal one? We should start demanding THAT instead of free legendary handouts.

I think FFXIV did legendaries (Relic Weapons) best or at least they used to by having a quest line you start that carried through to the end of the expac, it made the weapon feel like a journey as you had it with you all the way. I’d like to see WoW adopt that mentality, give us a quest we can start as soon as we ding level cap.

Lmao handouts you are an actual clown. You didn’t earn the legendary because you won a 1% chance at killing it on LFR.

Personally, the RNG of the drop+GLP doesn’t bother me. There’s 3 in my guild, 3 in my friend’s guild, and I have 4 other friends/acquiantances with axes.
Do you know the drop % of fyralath vs Thunderfury btw? How much are the GLP% eh? Thunderfury bindings you could move around to whoever has a binding to form faster, so another + for Thunderfury that Fyr’alath doesn’t have. I probably have 9 bindings on my account alone. TF droprate is 3% and 4% having said all this. So you see you’re probably wrong, right?
So what ACTUALLY matters, is the Thunderfury questline is much, much, MUCH more palatable than Fyr’alath. And I noticed today GMs or RLs are shelving their mains who get the axe and playing their alts for a second axe. Also just as degenerate as the quest chain. Thunderfury didn’t enable this behaviour, although I’m sure some chuckleheads ran an army of clowns to do the same, it wasn’t as enabled as show up on x plate chara and get an axe, we don’t care
we’ll know droprates in a few years when Thotbot catches up with the statistical data…
