The evoker legendary got me thinking about other legendary items that may be added in future patches. Do you think that’s possible? Legendary items have always been fun in WoW. They add a certain wonder and joy that normal gear does not. Our evoker got the legendary the other day and it was really cool.
We have seen several iterations of legendary items by now. Which was your favorite and why?
Legion / BC - Random Drop for specific classes.
WotLK - Tokens/crafting
Shadowlands - Crafting
WoD - Welfare legendary (everyone gets a cape or ring type of deal)
Personally I have always loved the legion legendary iteration, especially after the currency and BoA tokens came out.
My least favorite by far is the welfare legendary. The legendary ring or cape that everyone gets. If everyone gets a legendary, its not very ‘legendary’.
I hope we do see new class unique legendary items coming in dragonflight.

When do druids get a legendary?!!!

Legion was fantastic for legendaries. Fantastic.
Waits for the people who didn’t get their bis to drop, to come crying about it

Embellishments are the Dragonflight legendaries.
Ashkandur gives a legendary-like damage boost when fighting humanoids.
Not sure how you can justify calling the MoP/WoD implementation “welfare” but not the Legion version.
But as far as I’m concerned, the ones that you get/upgrade as part of an expansion-long quest chain are always going to be more interesting than the random drop ones.

I respect your opinion but I disagree strongly. Can you tell me why you like those ones ?
Funny because I don’t even remember the effects or the name of those. I did not even remember if WoD gave cape or a ring.
But everyone remembers Warglaives of Azzinoth, Val’anyr, Shadowmourne, and their favorite legion legendary.
I distinctly recall the rouge shoulders which gave 100% crit chance. Those were super fun.
The shaman gloves which enabled the ascendant gambling playstyle we have now.
So many I can go on and on.
The random drop nature makes it feel earned, and… well… legendary. These are “legendary” power items. Things that in universe characters would believe to only be myth or items from “legend”. It should feel earned. Not handed out like candy IMO
If it’s really going to be legendary there should be 1 per server on an extremely rare drop.
Of course people would lose their minds and that’s not really fun for everyone else, so the rare random drop style is the next best bet. Craftable or other everyone gets one formats should still be epic IMO.
(Note, I’ve never had a random drop one in current content, so i guess I’d never get one when it matters in my preferred system)
I don’t see how “got lucky” feels earned to you but “completed an expansion-long questline” doesn’t but to each their own I suppose.

Supposedly we’re dealing with the emerald dream in 10.2 so…um…sometime then maybe as well… it’s a realm druids explore constantly. If… that’s where we’re actually going as that’s just rumor atm

there was also cata legendaries?
k
the Kel’thuzad sword that eats other swords could be a permanent weapon… eating next-expasnion swords and becoming ‘current tier’ level…
a legendary should be something like that, not something you bank after 2 tiers.
This would be nice. Upgrade an item to legendary or craft a legendary and be able to keep upgrading it to stay current.

Yea. Sucks that it was supposed to be an actual entire expac. Not just a patch. The Emerald Nightmare.
Why are blizzard so stingy with the legendary items any way in WoW? In Diablo you are expected to have a legendary or better in every slot.
Why couldn’t Ashkandur, Fall of the Brotherhood
be a legendary. Why can’t Voice of the Silent Star
be a legendary. They basically are legos in all but color.
I don’t see any problem having a couple legos drop per tier.
I like that diablo like feeling and style of loot drops. When you see someone with Azzinoth you know they grinded a put in a lot of time for that.
When you see someone with legos, in the same way you can deduce the effort and time investment they put into the game.
Hey the quest ones are awesome too, but I like unique quest items. Shadowmorne and [
Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings, and even the new Dracthyr ones I think fit that category. Epic quest lines and lots of crafting and gold and time investment, but unique items for certain classes. As opposed to the same exact ring and cape for everyone

as a rare drop, and a reason to come back is a good way to keep a tier relevant all expansion long.

I have the exact opposite view. The “Classic” legendaries (and new evoker staff) definitely feel more special. People see it, they want it. That feeling doesn’t happen with MoP/WoD/BFA legendaries, and is lessened with Legion/SL legendaries.
That being said, it’s not worth it. Vanilla, groups of 40 players working towards a single person’s legendary. Possibly for months. What about everyone else? 39 people just miss out. Worse still, then people leave. Meanwhile, some other guild has got real lucky and has had multiple legendaries. Wrath, cata were more fixed in their time but still ultimately the same unfairness.
The WoD ring, specifically, is my least favourite legendary of all time but that has nothing to do with the “everyone gets one” mentality. You still had to raid for it. It’s not like you got one for logging in to the game. It’s just equal reward for those involved. The ring, however, was a shared cooldown between players. Worst. Design. Ever.
I quit early on in SL so I did not know. That’s awesome!
I really hope they add more unique legendary items.
Maybe Ashkander’s, Voice of the Silent Star, Nasz’uro could have been legendaries for Aberrus. Just a couple each tier, make them very rare. I think it would be a good thing. Maybe keep them out of the vault pool. Think that would really add some mystique to the game. Give players something to aspire too, give veteran a goal. Very cool reward for players who get one.
Like I said Diablo you are expected to wear legendary items in each slot! So 1-3 each tier in WoW wouldn’t be so crazy. I think it would really add some hype to each tier, motivate some people to clear every week, but not as a chore, as something they want to do.
I am remembering the legendary trinket from Argus. I think that was a good model.
Aman’Thul’s Vision
It was obvious BiS, but it was done in such a way that it was not expected everyone to get one or have one.
You forgot the Vanilla iteration, where an item dropped for a member of the raid team, who was helped by the entire team to complete the project, whereupon he /gquit and joined a guild with better progression.
All legendary distribution systems are problematic.
The problem with that trinket is that it was so rare that most people never saw it drop, even while doing transmog runs in later expansions. I don’t think it added to the game in any way for a legendary that essentially no one would have was designed to be useful only in the raid it dropped in. I think 1:10k drop rates are bad for the game.
Hard disagree. legion was the worst kind of legendary system.
“Oh you want this BiS spec specific legendary? Too bad, here is a crappy generic one youll only use because its orange.”
Also these were basically the welfare legendaries along with shadowland. Everyone got one, just had to wait long enough. It meant nothing.
Imo getting a legendary through a questline like Shadowmourne, Tarecgosas wrath, or even some like the WoD ring or BfA cape are my favorites.
Give me a reason why this is legendary. A goal to work towards, a cool story to explain why its a legendady item.
Never again do i want “equipable talent point bracer a that randomly drops from raid bosses”
