I recently saw this video and it got me thinking. I had a few takeaways from this video;
There is some fan fatigue toward Sylvanas from both parts of her fandom and hatedom.
She’s definitely coming back in the near future (Illidan was also put on a shelf, but we’ve had no sign of him since Legion).
Nice to see someone with a big platform acknowledge the Scarlet Crusade are overdone/wasted as punching bags (plus, Doron calling the Scarlet Crusade the lesser of two evils compared to Sylvanas was satisfying).
Nathanos might be coming back too.
Abrupt changes in characterization, for better or worse, are still a thing.
All that got me thinking, how can we deal with these issues going forward? There’s still a few legacy characters left. I think they need to be handled with care, but not bubble-wrapped against any negative consequences or opposition.
For example, while I hate Sylvanas and don’t want to see her in the near future, in the distant future I am curious to see what could happen with her story if it’s not in the hands of obsessive fans or haters.
You really like that Doron guy. Is he like your little brother or something?
I watched a video of his because you recommended him a while back - his delivery and style was not for me. Believe it or not, I try to be polite. He didn’t do anything to me, he doesn’t deserve my vitriol just because you brought him to my attention.
Oh that’s why you push him so much, he speaks what’s on your mind. I just can’t get past his delivery. I don’t like being shouted at.
I do watch T and E when they discuss lore, it is just not as amped up. I enjoy Nobbel lore videos, though I don’t watch his streams or personal chat type stuff.
It’s funny, people say Nobbel is Alliance biased, but I wouldn’t know that from watching his lore videos. I think that says something about his ability to avoid getting his bias too mixed up in his lore.
Speaking of Light-related stuff, his take is closer to yours than mine - he shilled the “Light fanatic” storyline HARD to the point of getting facts wrong about characters like Turalyon. Him acknowledging the Scarlet Crusade are less bad than Sylvanas and now wasted potential was a breath of fresh air and something something “credit where due”.
When it comes to WoW lore videos and streams, the few times I watch them I enjoy Nixxiom.
When it comes to lore, I share your preference for Nobbel (I don’t know if Nobbel’s Alliance biased), and I also like PlantinumWoW’s content. I’m neutral on T and E . Bellular’s delivery, style and tastes aren’t for me.
He’s admitted a couple times to primarily playing Alliance. Though that was a while back and might have changed in the 4 expansions since I last really paid much attention to his stuff.
EDIT: This is also a whole bunch of speculative nonsense, Sylvanas’ return could just as easily be summarized as, ‘good job, good luck, I’m still gonna be here for a while’.
