Hi all,
I’m writing as a longtime WoW player who recently submitted a ticket regarding a mount I lost nearly two decades ago due to a misunderstood quest interaction. While I understand the limitations of current support tools, I wanted to share my case here in the hopes it might gain some visibility or spark future consideration for players with similar legacy issues.
Back in 2005, I purchased the Icy Blue Mechanostrider Mod A, one of the original epic gnome mounts. When Patch 1.4 rolled out, a quest was introduced, Quest 7675, “Icy Blue Mechanostrider Replacement”, which allowed players to exchange the old unarmored model for the new armored “Swift” variants.
At the time, I completed the quest without realizing that doing so would permanently destroy the original mount, which is now unobtainable. To make matters worse:
-
Repeatable quests were visually identical to standard quests back then — there was no blue ? or special icon like we have today.
-
There was no warning that the Icy Blue mount would be lost forever, and not simply replaced or preserved.
I instantly regretted the decision, but the damage was done.
Feeling a bit nostalgic, I reached out to Blizzard Support recently to ask whether the mount could be restored or acknowledged in some way. Unfortunately, I was told that support does not have the tools to address this due to support being unable to restore mounts. They recommended I come to the forums.
I fully respect that the system has changed, and I’m not seeking a gameplay advantage, just a way to reclaim this part of my character’s history.
I’d also like to highlight a precedent: players who deleted the Corrupted Ashbringer during Classic were later acknowledged or granted special access to questlines or appearances. Blizzard has, in rare cases, taken steps to preserve the unique legacy of early player experiences.
I know this may not be something a GM can directly fix, but I wanted to raise it here publicly in case there’s ever an opportunity to address issues like this for other long-time players who may have unknowingly lost one-of-a-kind items due to the quirks of early WoW design.
Thank you to the support team for all they do, and thank you to the community for reading.
