Legacy item effects are inactive

So I just returned to the game after not playing for a few years. I haven’t played Legion until now and I just got my legendary but I see that it says ‘legacy item effects are inactive’. I get that the effects were disabled for the newest expansion, Battle for Azeroth but I’m only level 100… I haven’t played Legion yet. Is my weapon really nerfed for an expansion it was designed for?

Your artifact weapon is now like any other weapon in the game - it’s a stat stick. You can increase the ilvl with artifact relics, but that’s about it. All of the traits have been disabled. It’s still totally valid and usable, though; just not as much fun.

Note that you can still unlock all appearances including hidden experiences except the mage tower specific ones.

It’s basically been downgraded to be on par with heirloom weapons.

Yup, it’s part of the reason I feel that leveling in WoW is soo unsatisfying

Blizz have a weird obsession with stripping stuff from old expac zones when the new one comes out as well as confining the new systems almost entirely to the new expacs zones

Which leaves the old content feeling like a hollow experience. I mean, couldn’t they have just had the artifacts turn legacy at 110 or something like that?

On the other hand… just throwing it out there that my wife started a DH (lvl98) somewhere between 3-4 hours ago, and I was just informed she is now lvl110 starting BfA content. So there’s that…

Is that really the best we can hope for? Rushing people through the old content?

I dunno, I feel like just having the leveling content post new expac being more engaging/complete would be better

Yeah… I dunno. Not sure how I feel about that, if it’s a good thing or bad thing. Just mentioning it as a “Well it’s not a long lasting thing, if nothing else…” thing.

It is good.
If you want to level whitout heirlooms and as slow as possible by all means go for it.
Leveling is enjoyable the first and second time you do it.

Most of the artifact powers were baked into the spec baseline or made into talents, so it would be pointless to have the artifacts still work anyway. The ones that didn’t get this treatment were just pruned from the game and the rotation simplified. So yes, they are stat sticks now.

Artifacts > Heirlooms actually, the looms don’t catch up to a naked artifact until about 108, and that’s with no relics. Simply put there’s little to no reason to upgrade your heirloom weapons from 100 to 110, the artifacts are strictly better all the way to BFA.

That’s what I thought would be a good idea. It’s a huge part of the expac, and they destroyed it and did a fortnite dance on the crumpled remains

Doesn’t feel much like a legendary artifact destined to save Azeroth now, it feels like a “you’re telling me this is going to save Azeroth? Reaaalllyy?”

I mean, it wouldn’t have been super straightforward since artifacts were sort of butchered and pieces scattered through the “reworked” specs

But still…it feels like there must have been a better way, they were such a pivotal part of the expac

I was in the same boat, but even then I didn’t find a better weapon until I was around 115 or so.

Granted I don’t do dungeons any more, so perhaps you could find a replacement sooner there.

But because the entire expansion was built upon leveling this weapon doesn’t that mean that other weapons won’t be dropping? I really have no alternative but to use the weapon that’s now considered obsolete.

As others said its no different from any other weapon. It will be better then any other weapon until at least 115.

Yes blizz screwed it up and the azerite gear/heart are garbage.

Dont delete the legion artifacts though throw em in your bank when your done. Using them. We can still unlock most of thier legion skins afterall.

Heaven forbid newcomers should have the feel the power loss that longtime players/Legion players did.

It’s almost like Activision knows stripping players of their hard fought and well earned skills/power isn’t a good thing! :laughing:

Hi, I am in the same boat on this. Just started playing again for the first time in about 6 years. I just started this legion content, got this awesome weapon and wanted to know how to enable it’s powers. I do have a lesser version of the power in my list, but the one I see on my weapon is WAY better if I could use it.

I have to be honest, I can see why people are hating this BFA expansion. I haven’t even gotten up to that content yet, but so far the whole game feels really screwed up. I can also see why so many players have been wanting vanilla. Today the whole game feels really dumbed down. I enjoyed all the expansions up to Pandaria, but today I am finding Draenor to be incredibly boring, Legion is really confusing, and BFA seems to have just ruined everything at all levels.

This is just terrible.

This such a bad decision. What’s really fun is the text “this artifact’s power was sacrificed to draw out the darkness from the sword of sargeras and stabilize azeroth’s wounds”, which is something that hasn’t even happened in my toon’s timeline yet.

I think meant to say “scattered throughout the PvP exclusive skills that you aren’t allowed to use during PvE for no reason whatsoever”.

At least you don’t have to spend forever upgrading the missing legacy part, believe me, you are better off not needing to worry about that part.
