Legacy Appreciation Option

So Blizz, you are always looking for new ways to keep players subbed and going back to finish older content. I have an idea. Some might like it, some will hate it. Some may even troll. But since I am tired of reading threads written by people who constantly have negative “feedback”, I wanted to pitch something new:

The Legacy Hunter

No, it is not about the class. It is about the action. A fair few of us have been subbed here for nearly 2 decades and have the achievements and collections to prove it. But, most of us still have gaps in certain things, and have potentially given up on other things simply because the drop rates were as abysmal today as they were 18 years ago. That’s the wind up, so here comes the pitch:

I would suggest a new meta achievement that matches the Warband Mentor Buff. Once you have 5 level capped characters, and the matching achievements for completing the Dungeons / Raids at whatever level, you get a Warband buff. For instance, If I have completed Normal and Heroic 10 and 25 Throne of Thunder on one character, and have my five level capped characters, I get a buff to that raid for drops and mounts. That buff can stack up to 5 times based on the age of the content.

Throne of Thunder was added May 6, 2014. It is now July 7, 2025. There have been 5 expansions since then. With this Meta achievement in place, the buff can grow each time a new DLC is launched. A base 2.5% drop rate increase which increases over time. Now that we are up to 11.2, this means the buff would be increased 6 fold. In more specific terms here is how it breaks down IF we meet the other criteria:

Dungeons / Raids

Classic: 25% buff
TBC: 22.5% buff
Wrath: 20% buff
Cata: 17.5% buff
MoP: 15% buff
WoD: 12.5% buff
Legion: 10% buff
BfA: 7.5% buff
Shadowlands: 5% buff
DragonFlight: 2.5% buff
TWW (Current): No buff

This means, as time marches on, and people either get bored and unsub, or feel deflated and have no urge to run the content, the buff (after earned in the Meta achievement) would give them a reason to go back and run old stuff for something they missed. It’s old, outdated, yesterday’s news, and has zero impact on the current content. PLUS, it could entice former and new players to log in, get subbed, and chase things they missed the first time.

It hurts no one (unless you count the egos of the folks who wanted to feel special), it makes old content relevant and tolerable, and gives players a reason to sub and go back to do everything they left behind because they were either moving forward, or simply discouraged. We would have to earn the Meta each expac by keeping at least 5 characters at level cap. Easy ask especially for the achievement hunters.

And there is the pitch. Love it, hate it, tweak it. But at least talk about it. If any of the Wrath Team was still around, the ones who drove change in this game, they would already steal the idea and call it their own. So if you wanna steal it, and delete the thread, be my guest. I just think this could drive player engagement and make the entrances to old raids and dungeons look as alive EVERYDAY moving forward as they do during this event.

Honestly if you been sub for maybe even 10 years you had alot of time to farm all those mounts,

1% mounts from my experience drop around 250 kills, and expansions like classic to SL you can do it with any alt if your not lazy

General Discussion, where someone is called “lazy” if they don’t run the same dungeon or raid 250 times for a mount.

I spent 15 years farming the Lich King with more than 3k kills across 40+ characters and 2 different accounts. Lazy is not in my vocabulary. However, feeling defeated has been. I don’t mind putting in the time and effort when it is current, or even the next expac, or the one after that. But still trying to get something from 2009 in 2025 was unnecessary dedication.

Play all day then I get up and play all day then I wake up and play all day.
Only those who play all day get the stuff. Weekend warriors are treated like peons

Well thats the game that blizz designed, asking for weekend players to have to the stuff as no lifers, would be redesigning the game

Yea no 15 years is alot more than 3k kills, its more like 8k kills, and if you ran ICC every reset with 40 toons you would have it in less than a month

I never said I ran 40 characters a week, every week, for 15 years. My point was, I got the Headless Horseman’s mount on the first try, but 18 years of Tempest Keep and still no Ashes of A’lar (more than 1200 kills just on my Druid). Our mileages vary, and neither of us is the rule, especially you being the exception. I have a life to lead and would rather not turn a video game into another full time job again.

Yea thats why you didnt get it lol, you have to farm it lol, like every mount in game

I farmed it for 5 years, then slowed down. If you have nothing more interesting that “Herp derp it was designed to be run every time it unlocks til you get it”, I think we all get HOW it works, we just disagree with the locks still being on decades later. It’s called a QoL improvement.

Look i have 660 mounts, and pretty much every 1% and 0.5% , love rocket and time reaver , you have to consistently farm

Kudos. Not sure how many hours a week you get to play, But I have like 6 on a good day and 10 if I blow people off. So, enough about YOU. Do you have an opinion on the topic, or are you just here to farm post counts?

You topic sounds like " i dont have time to play so make it easier "

No, my topic is “I am tired of trying for 18 years”. Your responses sound like “Grind for it scrub or do without it.” Though, the fact that you keep coming for me, and not actually offering a “like or dislike” opinion, I’m not surprised.

Bro you got the buff right now, go farm… i ran ICC and the mount dropped first run, now i have 2

We’re done here.

You’re not wrong.
