Leaving due to toxicity

I always felt that I had pretty tough skin. I’ve put up with a lot over the years but today was the day I just had to sit back and say wow, just wow. I can’t actually justify exposing myself to written attacks like I just sat through in the future. In real life I’ve never had anyone behave like that towards me.

It wasn’t even just the generic insults, which I can just laugh off. It was age related insults tied in with my main’s guild name of over the hill. I didn’t even know the person, I just got targeted I guess because I dared to announce a rare spawn in mechagon to help others out, but I just realised that I don’t need this anymore and I will never be able to change the fact that I want to help others by typing in general.

So that’s me biting the dust. I just wanted to thank blizzard for all the fun wow has provided over the years.

So you are letting things that children say get to you that much ?

If you’re quitting over toxicity. Sorry, you don’t have tough skin. Every game ever will have this, you just deal with it

You’re overreacting. I don’t have anything else to say, except that not everyone in this world is nice, and if you let something like this control you, you’ll be doing it the rest of your life.

Good luck.

Whatever you do, do not do random BGs as a healer.

I’ve just decided I don’t want to be exposed to such vitriol anymore, it’s as simple as that. In real life it is very rare for a stranger to approach you and start insulting you, on wow it happens all the time.

Found someone that’s never worked customer service.

You walk past a bunch of teenagers and it isn’t unusual for them to make comments if they are in that mood.

Yeah, given your story sounds like you’re quitting over literally 1 person in general chat, I’m gonna call bullcrap on you having pretty tough skin.

I’d play nice and say “oh no, don’t leave over one person, just put them on ignore” and all of that, but if you’re going to get upset that easily, your options are turn off public chat channels or quit.

“On the internet it happens all the time.”

Corrected that statement for you.

You are allowing them to get to you.

Only YOU can stop it, but if you are allowing them to run you off, then you’ve allowed them to win, so “yay” I guess.

In the end, you do you. But you’ve given away all your power to infantile jerks on a video game that you seem to have enjoyed for yrs, all because of some words on the screen.

I wish you luck, however, if your decision is set in stone.

Did you report them?

You’re not alone in that, OP. I don’t even need to look at the replies to this thread to already know people are just gonna reply with “just deal with it” “grow thicker skin”, “words only effect you if you let them”, etc.

But it gets absolutely tiring having to deal with seeing it day in and day out in this game. Sometimes people like to play this game when they’re feeling depressed to try to cheer themselves up, too. I just don’t understand why people are so averse to just even recognizing that this community has a problem and wanting to change it. It will never get better because people have already decided the community getting better is impossible, that people being awful to each other and people getting sick of it and leaving is just how it’s always going to be, so just deal with it or play something else.

I will never understand it. I play FFXIV now and the community is like a thousand times more friendly and welcoming in comparison. People are moving from WoW to FFXIV and people have been complaining about the toxicity they’re bringing with them, too. This community is that bad.

If you think toxic players only play WoW then you’re sorely mistaken.

When you say you’re “leaving”, do you mean you’re moving out of your house or something, or are you just going to cancel your sub and stop logging in to WoW?

Sorry to hear that, but your skin is quite thin if someone making fun of your age is the breaking point. I get called old more than a 34 y/o should, but it’s just by stupid kids, so who GAF.

kids get nastier and more vile every generation. We’re almost up to a third gen of kids coming into the game now. You gotta learn to outsmart them or let it roll off you.

It’s not the kids, it’s the adults/young adults. Kids aren’t playing WoW, they’re playing Fortnite.

These people are morons OP.

You should turn off your chat.

on SoE almost no one talks so i haven’t had to yet. lol

No. I don’t know why everyone settles for the lowest common denominator now a days. Must be a generational thing… “Lol he’s a racist! But I’m just going to let it slide because it’s the internet”.

Edit; not Flower’s quote…
