I am pretty certain I will be rolling a Nelf Drood in Classic, was thinking it might be fun to make my own gear with Leatherworking.
I’ll be researching on my own but I was looking to hear from experienced LW and a few Vanilla Droods. Was it worth it? I know about the lvl 40 Wolfshead Helm from Tribal LW, I was wondering if there were other pieces I could make myself that would be competitive. I am planning on a 0/30/21 Feral/Resto build.
I realize that gathering is more lucrative, it’s what I did in Vanilla, but I’m not too worried about gold, I’ll play the AH again to make what I need. It just sounded fun to use a profession for something worthwhile in game, and Droods need lots of different gear.
To really be able to give you input we need to have a better sense of your thought process behind using that build. We have no idea how you’re actually planning on playing the game. The thing about that build is that it’s more of the tank or healer just died so jump in and handle it spec. So what’s your primary focus going to be, are you aiming for an offtank role, or to help with group healing, or are you looking to play cat but be flexible if something goes wrong, or is this just to do 5 mans on? We need way more information to be able to give input on your profession choices because you’re going to spend most of your time filling that primary role, and that’s where your main focus on gearing is going to end up (and that spec will likely end up changing to a more dedicated build at some point).
If you want to tank at all, you need Enchanting for at least a little while. You gotta get that Smoking Heart of the Mountain trinket for yourself. It’s one of the top trinkets for Bears in the entirety of Vanilla IIRC.
Yes it’s good because of it’s armor but you can replace it with vigilance charm from immolthar (dire maul drop) and mark of tyranny you will have anyway.
All I am saying it’s not a “must have” item
I will be on a PVE server, so chill leveling, but I want to tank/heal/DPS leveling dungeons since I never did that in Vanilla. At 60 I want to play around in dungeons some more (especially BRD) and then grind BG’s for fun and maybe some gear.
Not planning on raiding unless my guild has a spot and it’s really low key.
I really do want to try and be the quintessential hybrid to help everyone and be able to do lots of things, which is why I think I will need several gear sets.
In my experience you can cram two functional roles into druid in vanilla.
You can have two out of three that work reasonably well.
Obviously any hybrid will have to sacrifice quite a bit when compared to dedicated spec.
But you will be forced to basically pick two and if you want a functional pvp spec it’s going to be even more tricky.
But that is how it goes in my humble opinion.
Healer/tank
Healer/dps
Tank/dps
You simply wont have enough talent points to have more than two.
And when it comes to leveling dungeons you can do all of those in feral kitty leveling spec. You just have to carry an int set for healing.
He CAN get all 3 roles with the build he wants, but the skill needed gets higher because he’ll have longer weaker heal casts, and less threat and damage, so it’s very heavy on being aggresive and proactive. If he makes friends to play with, he can do everything. If he’s pugging, I’d recommend a more dedicated build.
But to fill out all 3 roles, leatherworking will bring him far with the feral side of it, but healing is a mess, I’d look into at least an alt for tailoring high level BoEs to fill in any gaps where he can only find agility. But remember, he’s not jumping in and tanking in cloth.
Isn’t the armor on the Heart much better than the dodge on the Charm? I’m not an expert, just regurgitating what I’ve seen (I have actually looked at the BiS lists in the past, just not recently).
In short yes the armor is better, but 2% dodge ain’t bad and what I was trying to convey is that picking enchanting just for one item to get a slight improvement is bit of an overkill.
All of the gear you could get from leatherworking that would benefit you is BoE.
Leatherworking isn’t necessary. You could even make the gear and drop it for another profession.
The enchanter trinket smoking heart of the mountain is definitely a must if you plan on tanking. It’s BoP but doesn’t require enchanting to wear so you could make it then drop enchanting. It’s worth it for resistance fights too.
Personally, if you’re going to be healing, I would suggest herbalism and alchemy for your end goal professions as herbalism works in forms and alchemy will be good for making your own mana pots and flasks. Maybe level up enchanting and tailoring for the trinket and some nice cloth gear, then take skinning and LW once you get that. Finally switch to herbalism and alchemy.
