Learning Curve: Warrior and Rogue

Shooting some questions to compare Warrior and Rogue:

Would you say Rogue is easier/faster to learn and master than Warrior?
Rogue’s skill rotation is simpler than Warrior’s stance dance (PvE and PvP)?
Energy or Rage, which one is harder to manage?
Warrior has 2 roles (tank and dps), so double the effort?
Warrior requires more gear and micromanagement overall?
Which one is more “beginner-friendly”?

I would say a Rogue is probably easier to learn, but harder to master.

I’d agree with this from a DPS standpoint. I do recall rogue being very forgiving during leveling.

Especially solo leveling? I imagine that group leveling, warrior benefits the most, right?

Once you start building up your cooldown’s, it becomes pretty hard to die.

No classes are hard in classic at all… it took me like 30 minutes to learn fury warrior single target rotation (with “stance dancing”), the rotation of a fury warrior can literally be simplified into a priority flow chart of abilities.

But to answer your question, rogue is probably easier.

On the basis of actually being effective, Rogue. All you really have to do to contribute as a rogue is pick up a sword, mash sinster strike and eviscerate whenever you get 5 combo points. It’s not even close to ideal, but it gets the job done.

So, for barrier to entry, rogue is easier. However, both of them have a very high potential and I can’t even begin to try to sell one of them short by saying the other is better. They both have amazing room for skilled players to shine.

IMO Rogue is more complex and has a higher skill ceiling. It’s pretty easy to learn though, the class is very well designed.

rogue is more fun plus you will wreck in pvp if you know how to play them. i main rogue and a warrior. Rogue is more beginner friendly then war also

how do you feel about rogue races?
Orc > UD ?

personally orcs for pvp

I think it’s important to note that the difference between a good rogue and a bad rogue in PVE is the ability to keep slice and dice going during boss fights in dungeons and raids.

Though you did ask about levelling so this may not apply to you.

Also, I think it’s important to note that there’s basically two specs for Rogue as you get close to max. One focuses on Crowd Control abilities and is great for PVP but crap for Raids. The other focuses on sustained damage which is great for Raids but crap for PVP.

One of the main reasons Rogues get crapped on when they do, is when Raid Specs try to PVP. And PVP specs try to raid.

Both are on par with each other learning curve wise in PvE. In PvP, I’d argue Rogues are harder to learn to play well due to the amount of cooldowns they have.

Thus Warriors are easier.

Stance dancing takes a lot of practice to pull off flawlessly, Rogues don’t have such things. When you play a Rogue for a long time, outside of cooldowns, the rotation in PvP becomes fairly straight forward. Warriors have to be crafty in 1v1 scenarios to come out on top.

Rogues easier here.

This can vary depending on who you ask. In PvE, there are little tricks Rogues have to optimize their energy, but fairly straight forward. Warriors on the other hand can easily spam abilities with what they have.

In PvP however, It’s easier to manage energy with a Rogue because if you somehow overlook and overspent it, you can use cooldowns to pool it back up again. Warriors don’t have such luxury and heavily rely on hits/crits.

Rogues easier again in PvP, PvE they are both on par.

Not necessarily the effort, but allows you to fill more rolls than a Rogue. If you like the idea of switching up your instance runs by tanking or dps’ing, then Warriors are great. If you think you’ll end up going dps 100% of the time, then may as well go Rogue instead.

They do, however Rogues also need good gear to matter in World PvP or battlegrounds. Although you can stunlock your foes and use cooldowns to your advantage, if your gear is semi-okay; you won’t be able to kill your target fast enough before reinforcements.

Both are easy to get into, hard to master, but Rogues have the edge due to stealth. The fact how you can choose your fights is huge. You can stealth past any kind of danger, and go directly for your quest objective down a cave for example.

awesome info!! thanks a lot for the knowledge

With a name like Ninjakillz and you playing male blood elf demon hunter i would def recommend undead rogue

No problem buddy!

Admittedly I’ve never played a Warrior long enough to fill in specific details. Looking outward in; the info should be pretty accurate. If anyone points out if I’m incorrect on anything, I’ll edit it.

I personally didn’t like needing to constantly hit heroic strike while dpsing. The flow of the rogue rotation always felt much nicer.

Rogues are pretty easy though imo. The only hard part is target swapping without losing much dps.

assassination/subtly for pvp combat for pve

Hemo/Cold Blood spec is the truth. You’ll never wanna go raid spec again.
