It’s a natural part of the role. Has been… forever.
If a car company released a car in America with right hand drive, that would be stupid. You won’t have to. There’s no law against it. But it would be stupid. People wouldn’t like it. And the car wouldn’t sell.
The dispel situation (and defensive situation) are similar. Keeping people alive = healer job. They can keep designing dungeons that spread the responsibility around, but people aren’t going to like it and they’re going to stop playing before they change their expectations because someone “said so. “
Yes. And people are very unhappy about it lol. The problem with being hit with the utility stick is now everyone is expected to use it. Dungeons are balanced around it. But people aren’t doing it. Because of a decade and a half of it being someone else’s job.
Trying to change the way people approach the game is stupid. They learned that in cataclysm. Seems they need to learn it again.
But it doesn’t. Who reigns at the top is of little consequences unless you play to those specs or if it feels like a unfair right to forever be there (like Augmentation.)
It’s also a balance problem, because if you can put out so much shielding that nobody takes damage, Then it starts to become mandatory, especially as M+ does what M+ does, and becomes a survival check.
There are lots of ways to do it. Like Grizzle pointed out above most healers have something in their tool kit that would work similarly if it was on a five second cooldown like PWS.
The issue was not so much shielding play style versus reactive play style. The issue is that with the dps in the party you don’t need to push your defensives. It’s always been my position that DPS should have fewer defensives and stops. Healer should have more externals and stops should be up to the tank. The more stuff we give DPS to do, the less fun people have in mythic plus.
