Instead of arguing over whether or not servers should have layering/sharding or not, why have both?
Idea
Mark a subset of the servers as [HARDCORE] to denote they do not have layering / sharding. A disclaimer when making your first character will explain the risk of queue times, etc.
yeah but there’s little downside to this. It doesn’t affect gameplay. They just don’t want people having “bad” experiences. If they make you painfully agree to it, I don’t see why they won’t do it.
Because that way you won’t have a bunch of people threatening to walk outside, but holding to the door frame shouting “I’m leaving, I’m super serial!”.
Because we want the game as it was back then. Why should we have to settle for community breaking technology?
Don’t change how things worked then and there’d be no argument to be had. It would be classic. If you want modern tech involved, play retail. The layering system will work the same way the community works in retail.
I’d say a community split in half (assuming it would be 50/50), some on “special realm type” and others on normal, would also be community breaking.
The reality is these hardcore servers will be packed with players as this is what we the classic fan base wants. Let these retail tourists play on their regular containment sharded realms and leave us out of it.
To be clear, this isn’t a server with a different “ruleset”. It’s just a server with higher queue times / server stability in an effort to give a part of the community what they want. It doesn’t give them any advantage to beating Rag first…in fact, it does the opposite of it.
How so? Your comment just doesn’t make any sense.
How would that be any different than players choosing their realms they are going to play on. We aren’t going to be having mega servers here ya know?
or… you know they could make all the realms like CLASSIC WOW instead of butchering what the game was by adding the very systems that ruined it in the first place but I guess thats just too much to ask for
This isn’t really that…there isn’t a different ruleset. It would essentially be PvP or PvE servers that are explicitly marked that they don’t do layering. That is, you will have to wait in a queue to join the server.
Why should we all settle for your vision of what classic wow should be? Community breaking? Cross-server realms are community breaking. This is more like directing traffic so cars don’t run into each other and constipate the road ways, which is good for the community.
I like your suggestion, but if sharding ends up staying throughout classic, why can’t we just have the option to choose which shard we’re on? Like on maplestory, you can choose channels (shards) to be on, channel 1 being the laggiest and most populated and channel 10 being far less populated and less laggy.
This would have huge impacts on wpvp, but it would also have the potential to bring huge wpvp battles. I can already see people surfing the shards telling people to come to this channel and fight. I hate the idea of sharding, but allowing us to choose which shard is better than forcing us into a shard with no choice.
