Layering/sharding

I know most of us are not keen on the idea this will be part of the game. It opens the door for exploiting the economy and other issues. Blizzard said at first sharding for the first couple day then that moved to phase 1… I don’t see blizzard budging on this one bit…

A few things I think blizzard should do is… putting a 5 or 10 min timer or better yet matching the cool down for hoping layers to rare spawns such as black lotus or rare monsters… shared resources such as mining nodes, chests, herbs etc should all be shared between shards or “layers” to minimize the effect on the economy…

Blizzard says only phase one at this point but I have my doubts… I think they should just remove it all together

agreed. its against what the community wants and goes against their promise not to mess with the community

Layer 1 to 5, then 5 to 10, then 10 to 15, then everyone who pulls past 15 should be spread out enough to leave them in 1 layer

just depends on what Blizzards intentions are. If its to maximize profits we might not see a removal of the layering system because with it they can turn 1 server into many more.

I want to believe blizzard but people were against sharding and they turned around and sharded the entire server while saying to us they weren’t going to mess with the social aspect of the game.

I am seeing quite a bit of Say one thing do another… it’s concerning to put it lightly

Ya, i fear for the same, even sharding helps kill the social aspect of the game and they think layering is better, i dont think either option is worth anything.

I’m going to call a spade a spade… layering is just a scaled up version of sharding

The game would literally be unplayable and youd have queues for over 10 hours to get in or ghe servers would cradh.

  1. Originally launch had just around 200000 players.

  2. Classic is expecting numbers closer to 5mill

  3. We are getting less servers for classic than vanilla.

Without layering the launch will fail.

I think I would have to agree with you on this too. From the stress test quests were still taking a long time to complete, around 30min from what I read. Heres hoping the 29th stress test will be better

While the launch will be complicated without it, it’s more than possible with today’s tech… I don’t know where you are getting the five mil number… I would be very surprised if it had that many… maybe down the road but I don’t see launch having that many

If it was possible with today’s tech the stress test the other day wouldn’t have been the crapfest it was.

You’d be unable to crash a server by crowding 200+ people into one zone.

When i was in the stress test it had taken some players 6 hours just completely the starting quests and get to 5. Due to the sheer amount of players in the zone.

I would be willing to bet regardless of what blizzard says that the stress test went almost exactly as planned…

Probably not EXACTLY as planned… but it is a stress test so of course you’d expect stuff to go wrong.

It’d be a miracle if it went smoothly.

Todays tech is layering.

The turned it off during the stress test to see what would happen and the entire thing crashed.

It was only playable again after they turndd it on.

30 minutes to complete a quest?

Oh, the horror of it all. Whatever will those retail players who expect to complete almost everything in 5 minutes or less do to survive?

Well think about it for minute, there was only one realm. Let’s say they kept the population to 6k or there about’s . We know for a fact they sent out a ton more invites to the stress test than the max server pop… It would be a pr nightmare If they blatantly said most of you won’t get in by design… he’ll it was a pr nightmare anyway…

True.

But the fact I know what a stress test is for, is why I’m not even mad. In fact I was actually laughing my butt off while trying and failing to log in.

“Hashtag Authentic Vanilla Experience!” I kept giggling.

…I wonder if I am a masochist.

No that’s the easier and cheaper way out… It’s not necessarily the best option for a quality produc it’s not necessarily the best option for The players

No… it’s definitely layering.

If you think the best option is to just merge dead servers, I’m sorry but no. Server merges are cancer.
