Layering ruined the leveling experience

I’m sure other people have noticed this, if you have a lower level character on one of the realms that had layering introduced the leveling experience is virtually ruined by this I mean, especially as time goes on, there will eventually be no lower level characters in existence. As local channels are also disconnected from layering, even now forming a group for something as simple as Wailing Caverns is very hard to do. As you cannot create new characters, or ever return to a lower level leveling experience. The starting zones and higher level zones will very quickly die out turning it into a solely level 60 game-play realm.

This forces people now who enjoy the leveling experience of playing with other people, being able to form groups at ease are forced to start over on a new server with population, as the lower level population will die out very quickly, especially since local channels are layered. You may as well be playing on a zero population realm.

Are they now?

It wasn’t like that at lunch.

It would be interesting to have that confirmed, I tried testing it with someone cross-layer in a party and I did not see their messages pop up in the local channel we were both in. You can tell by simply being in the barrens as well, the chat is dead.

Yeah, last nite, forum posts were already raging about it. People shoulda known things woulda gotten messed up w/this (again). All sorts of craziness now! :smirk:

This is why they were so apprehensive to do it in the first place. You fix queue times for many, you annoy someone else. Cannot make everyone happy.

Either way this is only temporary while so many are stuck at home quarantined.

Yeah it’s understandable. It makes some aspect of the game better and others worse, it doesn’t seem that balanced to me though. It takes more than half the game away if you destroy the leveling experience, let alone being able to make twinks or anything else of the sort.

The combination of no new transfers, and no new first time accounts, to the realms with layering, should lead to attrition to the point where layering can again be disabled.

It actually shouldn’t take long for the population to subside, the problem was that because Whitemane, Incendius, etc were listed as FULL, the COVID19-driven new accounts were choosing them first.

Ruined as in you have a way out of a gank?

This is not true.

If your leveling, you dont need other people around. If anything, when questing away you want it all to yourself.
There is always the world chat, looking for group chat etc.

You can still contact others and look for groups for a dungeon, quests and the like.

Layering had to come back, the ques were really bad.
After hype died the not so popular servers got quiet and many transferred to the already full servers. It doesnt help that a pandemic hit and many ppl who got bored of classic came back.

Would you or anyone else xfer off your server to an unpopulated one to avoid layering if bliz asked? Probably not… So we have what we have

It seems this way to me, as the person I tested it with cross layer I did not see their messages pop up in local channel. Also, the barrens is always on fire, now it’s suddenly dead and you can hardly get a response at all so I’m not so quick to believe that.

I play on Whitemane and I haven’t seen a single message come across the barrens chat and i’ve been in the zone for 20 minutes.

I didn’t notice any problems with layering initially until i went into the barrens and saw a total of like 20 messages throughout the entire day, not sure how many layers or if im just in a dud, but layering has severely affected my lfg status already.

I’ll take layering over level scaling any day. I honestly believe that scaling killed Retail. I know it did for me. It still exists in Shadowlands apparently, so I won’t be buying that. With the pandemic goin on though, I’d say a touch of layering is probably a good thing until it has passed.

Yeah level scaling was a terrible idea.

/who is your friend.

For those of us who launched with classic, having 10s of players fighting over one boar got old quick and that was with layering.

Who would have thought? Splitting the playerbase ruins the experience. Works for sub-60 pvp and questing alike. Activision is pretty short sighted.

I disagree? Without layering you couldn’t even play the game. I would rather have layering than kept getting disconnected every 30 mins

Started a druid right before they made this change on herod and I agree.

Leveling is actually better than ever right now due to much less competition for quest mobs and grind spots.
