Honestly, even the World system in OSRS was a better attempt, at least it doesn’t result in insanely poor game design where you can be swapped to a layer mid-combat inside a cave and then just die because nobody cleared the cave on that layer. Or lets say that you’re having a lot of fun in world pvp but then blizz decides its time to balance the layer and the enemy raid gets sent to the shadow realm and you’re left kicking rocks after raising a raid against them only to get dogged by the world itself.
It honestly makes the game feel like a fever dream with little to no object permanence, everyone you see is just some person that you will likely never see again, you walk over the hill, come back 4 minutes later to a hunter bot with a slightly different name than the last. You log over to your main to defend your alt and they evaporate, leaving you to punch air.
Its already gotten to the point where players with addons and weakauras can just pick the layer they want and go to it, its time to just make it a built-in feature and let people plant their feet on a plane of existence.

You have no clue how layering works.
It was in the servers when they had many different ones.
Can you stop talking about things you don’t understand.
No one cares what you think about this because you are some random on the internet with zero skill in this subject.
All of these have literally happened to me and anyone else who plays the game, but I know for a fact that you’re just a troll baiting a response

You are never getting a server in WOW without layers or sharding.
The sooner you accept this and stop whining the better.
Layers are about as anti-Vanilla as you can get.
The thing is they were never meant to be a long-term thing. They were put in original Classic for the launch and then removed completely by…phase 2? And that was that. That was their function: to deal with the insane launch numbers.
But now as the Classic team has fallen in love with megaservers…with only 1 server of each type, they’ve come to rely and depend on layers basically forever. And that creates a horrible experience.

Bro what happened to you today that you’re this grouchy over someone making a legitimate complaint or suggestion on the forums?
Chill the f out.
Even if you happen to know more than someone about a specific aspect of a video game, why do you feel like that person can’t express their opinion.
News flash, Frosstfire: you TOO “are some random on the internet.”
OP has a good point and I 100% agree with him. The world should have a feeling of permanence. Not shifting things around all the time, if that is indeed what’s happening. It breaks immersion.

Agreed, layers were a decent band-aid, but the lack of proper treatment has left the wound to fester. As a player of one of those megaserver I can’t even really tell what the population is like because the game weaves me up and down layers so often.
Players fell in love with megaservers.
Players willfully neglected a dozen perfectly playable servers in favour of two to three megaservers. Players decreed any server type that wasn’t “Full” was dead on arrival, and chose to sat through multi-hour queues rather than re-roll.
People elect the governments they deserve, and this is exactly what the Classic playerbase asked for.

You are never getting servers without layers.
I don’t know why you are crying about this.
It’s not gonna happen.
Layers were never removed. The population just dropped so low, they only needed 1 layer.
They are automatic.
It does not matter if OP does not understand how layering works deep inside., as long as he precisely describes the ruionous effect on the game and on the single player - which he does.

So what outcome is he hoping for?
They won’t remove layers.
Next time: Servers instead of layers maybe? more layers? Stable layers? I really have no idea, but I too hate layers.

Every server they have done for WOW classic has had layers.
They are not going to remove them.
Dead server, perfectly playable sever, it’s just semantics really.
Either way players like playing on populated servers where they can actually you know have players to play with in an MMO RPG.
They’ve tried more servers twice, in vanilla and when classic launched. All that happens is you end up with a bunch of low pop realms that have to be merged.
Its the only way to make dead games look busy.
that’s a good question that can also be applied to nearly every post you make.
Sadly I think you’re rigth … apart maybe from the RP-PvE servers back in 2019 - this does not prevent me from intensely disliking them and hoping they were as permanent as last winters’s snow.
Populated - yes. Overpopulated - no thanks. And as these metrics are individual, servers should be allowed to be different and not one size fits all forced upon us
And we’ve see the results of too many servers, there just ends up being a lot of under populated servers.
There’s certainly issues with layering that could be addressed, like some of the random layer hops(which are much less common than people pretend but do happen) or making layers themselves smaller. But long term they absolutely result in healthier servers.
