Layering is game breaking

I honestly believe that layering, in it’s current form, can not exist in classic wow without breaking the game. During the stress test, Players were able to hop from one layer to the next to get 3+ arena chests in a minute. You can do this for any of the world’s resources, rare mobs, black lotus, rich thorium veins etc. These are things that would take days to farm, that people can literally do in a minute.

Players were also able to hop into a new layer in the middle of world pvp. This is the worst part about layering in my opinion. The above example is just going to severely effect the economy in classic wow, while that is important I don’t think it’s anywhere close to as game breaking as being able to avoid world pvp. People will have characters created for the purpose of whispering them a word to automatically invite them into a new layer, this was happening in the first hour of the most recent stress test, it is not a unique idea that few will use. If you don’t do this, you’re at a major disadvantage economically and in PVP.

I don’t know what the solution is because I don’t exactly know what the problem is to begin with that layering was a solution to. I do think if at all possible it should be avoided outside of the starter/non contested zones.

I really don’t like that one layer seems super populated and one seems dead… idk the system is just weird

I have to agree with you here. The best solution i’ve heard if they don’t make it an only starting level (Levels 1-25 type solution) is to limit the number of layers you can enter per hour, which could take away some of the exploitativeness of it

whats wrong? do you think that layering is okay, or that blizzard will do nothing about it no matter how many complaints they get about it?

People were already pissing and moaning about how overcrowded the starter zones were, and that’s with layering in place. People were still able to log in, and still able to play. You take layering away and we have queues. But I’m sure people will react rationally and politely when confronted with a 2+ hour queue to log in at launch.

There have been three stress tests was this happening in the current stress test? You shouldn’t be against something simply because you believe it’s an issue you should check to see if it’s still happening.

I don’t think layering has much to do with queues as it does player experience in the starting zones which weren’t designed to handle large groups of people.

Yes the abuse of hopping layers was very apparent yesterday.

Remove layering and you get queues. Blizzard then either needs to overstock servers, and dilute the population (both up front and after the launch rush dies off). Layering is designed to alleviate all of that, per Blizzard itself.

Its more of there has been like 50 posts of “Layering is a problem” already.

I would prefer transmog thread #384748. Layering is necessary. It may need some tweaks and fixes, but to go overboard like this continues to be absurd.

Mostly about the ability to play at launch and the even bigger issue of how to handle the millions of Classic tourists that won’t stick around after a month or so leaving dead servers.

Granted I think that sharding the 1-20 zones for a while may have been sufficient for this (maybe 1-30 for a short time). Obvious downside to this is that with sharding you get moved around (don’t keep seeing the same people).

If they could mix it up and just give layering for 1-25(ish), I think that would be the sweet spot. Not sure if there are technical problems with that of course.
