Layering and Rares

I understand the need for layering but there needs to be some way to anchor yourself to a layer you want to stay on. Or make it so you don’t automatically layer swap when you are near a rares spawn point. ORRR just kick up rare spawn timers to match the demand.

I’ve been camping for Humar off and on since the beginning of SoD and this happens every freaking time, I’ll wait for like 6 hours then I’ll get layer swapped to another layer where I have no idea when his last respawn was, and then some other hunter will be like “Bro I’ve been waiting here for 6 hours can you find another layer?” I see hunters phasing into my layer one time there was 6 of us hunters all phased in trying to camp for Humar.

I’m not complaining about the competition. I’ve tamed Humar since Vanilla, but layering just turns the camp into a crap shoot. Camping is meaningless when your layer just randomly changes. One time within a couple hours I layer swapped 3 times. It’s very frustrating and its a pretty big problem.

I’m sad this didn’t get any traction and that it didn’t come up when I initially searched for something like this.

On top of rare camping, it’s also super immersive breaking to clear out a camp of hostile NPCs one at time, strategically, only for you to get phased and suddenly be surrounded.

What I would like to see is getting a prompt (much like getting saved to raids) that let’s you stay on a ‘potentially dead’ layer. Problem, if you can call it that, is people abusing that somehow.

Alternatively, getting a 5-10 minute before layering occurs could also be helpful (yet wouldn’t solve camping rares).

Finally, not to overload this response but it would also be helpful if we better understood layering and rare timers, it could make a difference.

Like, does each layer copy the previous timer, create it’s own random timer or is it a fresh start? Because if it’s fresh, then you’ll basically never see rares on any layers higher than like 5~ depending on server pop/activity which leaves camping layer 1 as the only viable option, pending you can get there. Which then leaves it’s own problem of being HIGHLY contested, especially on high pop realms with good potential that any ‘rare’ pets simply get killed each time.

tldr: something has got to change, specifically because of how bloated servers are.

This is actually interesting news to me about this that I never really thought of before. Nice to see a legit complaint put out in a decent civil way with some kind of realistic solutions.

Hopefully this will get seen and addressed at some point.

Got my support and thread bump!

A warning like the hearth warning would be nice. And then something that lets you say stay in current layer, swap now or on timeout.

Aggrend posted about the dynamic layering system and how it interacts with the Ashenvale event as well as general info about it.

They tried disabling it for a bit but many complained about the world seeming “dead” so we are back to layers “collapsing” when certain thresholds are met.

I realize it doesn’t address the rares/taming concerns but I wonder if Blizzard would make it possible for an individual to in any way “override” the system that is programmed to rebalance folk. It’s sad to say but that could really be abused.

Best of luck to those on the hunt for that rare companion.
