Trying to figure out how Layer 4 wasn’t bad at 246 ilvl, but at 265 I’m getting my face crushed in on the first floor after 7 reruns.
The heck is with this difficulty curve from 4 to 5?

They start spawning bosses and rares early on starting with layer 5.
You’re not kidding. On my “best run” on Floor 1 alone I got Patricia Cromwell, Maw of the Maw, Krosus the Fallen, a few other dweebs and they still kept piling in.
Idk what spec are but there is a holy priest guide to soloing JG layer 8 on youtube. I agree though there is a tremendous spike in difficulty from layer 4 to 5. Like you mentioned there is RNG in not only anima powers but the combination of bosses you fight simultaneously and the type of floor you are on.

I feel you here. Mast jump in difficulty from 4 to 5. My friends and I got slapped hard and now rethinking our strategy. Lol.

It also depends on your class/spec. Some have amazing powers (eg. BM Hunter/Necro BM Monk) and can skate through but others will struggle regardless.
If you feel like soloing it, you can cheese it as BM with Craven Strategem. Equip that then keep resetting until you get Chelonian Crest and Death’s Rest. With those three, you can keep Aspect of the Turtle up the entire time. About the only thing you need to worry about is the Vault Sentinal since its fear will not be blocked by AoT.

You must have gotten lucky, or you’re playing a spec like BM Hunter.
Because for me going from Layer 3 was face roll and Layer 4 the first floor alone has me popping CD’s and struggling to stay alive at 245 ILVL.
Granted I haven’t tried since getting my tier set.
But ultimately our experience is the same. The ramp up in difficulty is not at all smooth. It’s smooth sailing initially, and then bam turn around and come back another day.
I was able to solo my way to 8, but i cannot complete it.
Im almost 278 in every slot so hopefully i can.

For sure. I’ve been trying now to complete layer 8 as arcane or frost but still struggling with it. As fire I needed almost every anima power to have a chance at success.
As rogue, can’t you do vanish resets if you take out the mobs and bosses that have stealth detection? The problem I had doing it solo as mage was running out of lives but if I could pull the invis resets off then it made it possible.
Interesting. We are trying to get it as a group of 3, which is how we did the Flawless 16s, but I may have to give this a try. Lol.
However, I’ll still go with my friends for a legitimate win too.

Resets are definitely useful for when the stacking damage buffs get too high.
Also im doing this on a prot Warrior not my Rogue.
