It’s as if the people at the top, particularly Kotick, think that employees should be grateful now the secks offenders are out of the company. That’s not doing a favor, that’s basic decency.
The problem is those executives who did the offenses showed no repentance and went unpunished.
I mean, good. At least in the sense that we don’t need further consolidation of these milti billion dollar companies. I know a lot of us were hoping that a Microsoft take over would clean house at the top level to implement better working reforms, but even that was a shot in the dark.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, and I’ll probably say it in the future too, unionization is the only way forward to really affect change at Blizzard, or any other large company. Its hard and requires dedication, sure, but we’ve seen new industries come out and start that long process like Starbucks and Amazon.
Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard are already appealing. But if the CMA gets bullish about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if Activision-Blizzard pulls out of the UK Markets (as the CMA only controls what can happen in the UK) to deny them authority over the merger.
Their argument is extremely weak too. They should just be honest and admit to which one of them got a brown envelope from Sony under the table.
Not that I’m here to defend either of these companies, but Sony isn’t Microsoft. Sony does not have 80% of computer software world wide, it does not have a near monopoly on enterprise services, has more or less cross platformed its entire gaming sector between Xbox and Windows. When you compared the two, its apples and oranges.
Now both should be given the hammer with massive oversight, regulation, and the like, but its just not a fair comparison between the two.
I would like the Warcraft franchise to continue for a while. I am a fan of it. I would like to see it avert disaster when possible. I have been hoping Blizzard would get purchased by a massive corporation - hopefully Disney. Disney seems to have helped salvage Marvel and Star Wars when they were on the brink of wearing out. They could do the same for Warcraft, maybe. If Disney wanted to go heavier into the gaming sphere.
Microsoft would be a secondary but acceptable choice for me. They come with a big leg up as far as gaming and software in general. As well as financial backing.
If Blizzard could be separated from Activision, I would not care much about what happened to the rest of Activision. And that part of the company seems to be where the contention is. Blizzard is sort of there for the ride.
I was glad to hear Microsoft and Blizzard remains steadfast, and sort of say “their loss - we are going forward.” If the US and the EU give the merger an OK, the UK would be the outlier.
I’ll give the benefit of the doubt that the look of it seems to be to lower the time needed to do fairly monotonous work not something to replace the artists entirely.
It’s also kind of annoying that gamerant doesn’t actually link the patent so people can read but that’s a fairly normal issue for them.
