Are any other shamans confused and baffled by the fact that lava burst visual is being updated but not lightning bolt??? For years people on the the shaman forums have been begging for the weird, bland 2d blue line that is lightning bolt to be visually updated to the same level as classes like warlock priest etc.
Lava burst and chain lightning are the two visual animations people have been more or less fine with, so why is lava burst being changed instead of lightning bolt?? I personally like the new lava burst visual but it’s just weird and feels like blizz is not looking at what people are asking for…
The new ascendance is also not in line with what the majority of people were asking for, which was something like the primalists Dathea or grimtotem boss… It’s just weird that the new updates are so different than what people have been wanting.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the new updates it’s just I would have much preferred to see lightning bolt updated, as well as other super boring looking spells like earthquake, frost shock, primordial wave (which is just a sad version of elemental blast now).

I agree, I actually prefer our current lava burst animation. Hopefully the keep the casting animation and the one on the ptr keeps the same “cast from the earth” type cast from it. I just stood there staring at the screen seeing the same lightning bolt animation while updating something I never even thought of or asked for. Hopefully they do it in the future but not holding out hope.

I’d be remiss if I said i wasn’t annoyed the lightning effects still aren’t getting updated, but Lava burst is getting yet another updated visual. This is literally their time to just update the visuals of all the shaman abilities.
I won’t even be surprised, though, if the ascendance change gets scrapped too and we’re continued to be stuck with the current one because of the loud obnoxious vocal group who whines and whines about shaman never getting anything, and then when they do get something they whine and whine about it being bad. That’s how we lost the updated lightning visuals in legion. It’s incredibly frustrating. Hopefully this time the devs won’t cave to those obnoxious nits.

Or maybe they could just do a better job. Keeping the current Ascendance model or getting the new model are both bad options. Don’t blame the players for Blizzards incompetence designing a good Ascendance model.

Except it is a good model. I’ve played shaman since 2005 and I love the version they’ve come up with. I’m not the only one. Just like I loved the lightning bold animations back in legion that were being introduced (as did a lot of other shaman); but, because there’s a vocal crowd who whines incessantly, they got scrapped and screwed over the rest of us who were looking forward to it.
I am very quick to call Blizzard out; I’ve been banned a few times over the years for it. But just because you dislike the upcoming model doesn’t mean that they’re incompetent. The new model is great, and it really fits well with Zandalari or even Kul’Tiran (from a drust perspective).

Personally I’ve never liked the cast from earth animation, especially for an ability we spam so much.
Great. Judging based purely on responses here, on reddit, YouTube, and on wowhead, you are in a substantial minority in liking this form. Whether something is cool or not is clearly subjective, but when it’s so obviously clear your opinion is in the minority, don’t blame the players because they don’t agree with you.
I agree with you on the legion lightning bolt, it would have been better than what we have now. But that’s an entirely separate case, and in no way relates to this art asset.

I also agree that the new ascendance model is cool and definitely an improvement to the old one which was appalling looking but I also acknowledge that it wasn’t really what people were asking for, however I much rather have this new one than the old one and it not be scrapped
I am still confused about why they cancelled the updated lightning bolt animation in Legion because people didn’t like the new chain lightning - like these were two separate spells, so why cancel the lightning bolt? From what I recall they also said that they would deliver on something better but now its been 7 years with the same weird lightning bolt animation that no one likes. The decision making is truly baffling, especially when we had an entire expansion of shamans with literally dozens of lightning animations added for npcs
