I’m having the issue with lava burst skill not working in elemental specialization. I have switch to Enhancement and Restoration, both specs lava burst is working. I created a new shaman and tried elemental spec- lava burst worked fine there. I read somewhere that if you took the gear upgrade that it bugs this skill out. Any help regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated :).
Enahancement doesn’t get Lava Burst as a baseline skill; it requires spending a talent point in the main Shaman talent tree. Whereas Elemental does get Lava Burst as baseline and can’t unlearn it in the talent tree even if they wanted to.
Are you sure you aren’t confusing Enhancement and Elemental specs on the character in question?
It seems the game itself is confusing the two spells.
I used the gear update on one of my shamans and Lava Burst is not working in Elemental spec. The spell will not cast unless I have like 95 maelstrom. When I can cast it, the animation and sound effects do not go off, and it will give me the buff for Elemental Blast… without ever having chosen the talent. Lava surge procs do not make Lava Burst instant either.
On my other shaman, that did not use gear update, I do not have this problem.
I am having the same issue, just used the gear update on my Elemental Shaman and Lava Burst is not working. Any news on how to fix this?

I also took the gear update and this no longer works correctly. Is there a workaround? Can blizz tell us if this is actually the problem, or something else?

I ran across the same issue. When I went into a dungeon (time walking MOP), it worked and continued to work after that.
Same here, gear boost and I cant cast it.
Tried Scan and Repair, still broken.
Tried to cast it naked, still broken.
Don’t know what else to try.

I just came back to the game after a very long break was super excited now i’m pretty miffed.
I am also having this issue. I submitted a ticket under a random category to try and get help. The character is unplayable like this.
I also did the gear upgrade today to Elemental and am no longer able to cast lava burst… this is a game breaking bug for this spec
Yeah so the response I got from my ticket was infuriating. Posting pics in a thread on twitter and @ing blizz this is unacceptable. He was also under the impression that Elemental Blast replaces Lava Burst and Not Earth Shock so… it looks like this is gonna take a while. 5 days into this ticket. Wish me strength fam.

This might be a stupid question , I am merely a simple cow shaman, What trinkets are you wearing and when you cast naked have you taken the trinkets off?
I wish we still had the armory , I could just look, but I feel it might be a Zone specific trinket that has some kind of Lava burst upgrade from what I am reading.
I am having issues with being unable to cast lava burst in elemental spec like everyone else here. It works on enhance just fine, but not elemental which is a very big deal.
Anyone hear of a fix? I’m having the same issue. I did a Time Walking run like Roci suggested and the instant lava burst only worked for me while in the dung. After finishing, the problem persists and no instant Lava Burst. Elemental Shaman is unplayable atm.
Do you have War Mode enabled and you’re using one of the PvP talents that modifies Lava Burst?
This is also happening on my shaman. I can only cast lava burst in elemental specialization if I have 75+ maelstrom. When I press lava burst in that scenario, my character has no casting animation, but at the end of the cast my character casts elemental blast instead of lava burst. I can still get lava surge procs, but they do not allow me to cast lava burst unless I have 75+ maelstrom, in which case I still cast elemental blast. Also this does not consume a charge of my elemental blast ability. This bug is currently VERY disruptive, as lava burst is a significant spell in various elemental shaman builds.

I assume you disabled War Mode or changed PvP talents? Hopefully, your problem went away?
