My husbands launcher will not update. It just loops and then says waiting on another update. Then pauses or loops again. I have done all the suggested things. And it will not work. Mine on the other hand fired right up. I went through and even made sure the antivirus had everything saying allowed. I even tried turning it off. Nothing works. Anyone have a fix yet?
Hey there Kalakins,
Thank you for taking the time to report this! Update issues like this are typically caused by a conflicting third-party program, damaged/corrupted local Battle.net files, or a problem connecting to the patching server. I recommend the following steps to narrow this down:
-
Fully update or temporarily uninstall antivirus programs which may be interfering with their connection to the patching server. If you’d like more information on troubleshooting security applications, click here
-
Reinstall the Battle.net Desktop App with these steps:
• Uninstall the Blizzard Battle.net App (skip Step 6 for now, we will re-install later).
• Next (before re-installing) let’s delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders in the Windows temporary file locations below. If you don’t see all 3 folders in each location, that is okay—just delete the folders you have):
- Press Windows Key + R and type: %LOCALAPPDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.
- Repeat the process for %APPDATA%, %TEMP%, and %PROGRAMDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.
• Finally, re-install the App.
If the problem persists, many potential Windows-specific problems can be resolved by creating a new administrator account, logging into it, and testing on the new admin account.
Hopefully, one of these steps will do the trick. Please let us know if you have any questions or run into additional issues.
None of those options worked. I even deleted AVG and downloaded bitdefender. I don’t know what else to do. I have gone through every tech page on here. Nothing helps. It’s weird. My battle net is working and my hubs is not.
I was having the same issue all morning. The only thing that ended up helping me was the following:
Fix 4: Reset the WMI Repository
- Run “cmd” using Windows Search and enter the following one at a time and press enter (Run as administrator) :
- net stop winmgmt
- winmgmt /resetrepository
- net start winmgmt
- Restart your computer.

Hope this helps!
This did not work We have tried everything you guys have said to. Nothing is working.
I’ve encountered this a couple times or so in the past, dunno why.
One thing to note is to check that Secondary Logon service is activated. I had an issue and found this needed to be activated and then it worked for me. Definitely was a relief!
So I had activated and tried to open or reinstall it again (I don’t recall) and it then worked. But I think in one instance it didn’t right away but worked after I tried the same steps Skelgarer posted from step #2 and onward.
As to why does the Secondary Logon service needing to be on for Battle.net? It’s required per Blizzard Battlenet support Article: #26566 that can be looked up.
And Article 7551 “Secondary Logon Service” has the instructions how to activate it, which I’ve also added below. All I know is after I reactivated this and re-tried the steps it worked and wanted to share to help save anyone from having same issue and alleviate the frustrations - I hope! I hope it works for you too!
From the Blizzard Support Article 7551:
"Secondary Logon Service
Updated: 3 years ago
Article ID: 7551
Windows Secondary Logon allows administrators to log on with a non-administrator account to perform administrative tasks without logging off. The Secondary Logon service must be enabled for Blizzard games to install and run.
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type services.msc into the Run window.
- Click OK.
- In the Name column, locate and right-click Secondary Logon.
- Select Properties.
- Under the Startup Type dropdown menu, select Automatic.
- Click OK.
Some security programs may turn the secondary logon service off. If the service is disabled again after you’ve switched it to automatic, you must configure your security program to stop disabling the service. Contact your security program’s manufacturer if you need assistance with configuring your security software."
Kalakins - Thank you for updating us on the status of this issue, though I am sorry to hear that it is still preventing you and your husband from playing together. I see that you mentioned removing AVG Antivirus and later installing BitDefender, and that could be what is mistakenly blocking the movement of files to/from the Battle.net Desktop App. This can sometimes occur if the Antivirus in question needs to be updated. If you’ve already checked to ensure BitDefender is up-to-date, try fully removing this software as well, and then restart the computer and retry the update.
Note: Some security programs may be difficult to uninstall. ESET maintains a comprehensive list of common antivirus uninstallation tools on their website.
If the issue persists, I recommend having your husband submit a support ticket. This will allow us to dig deeper by checking the system-specific MSINFO file which we can’t request here on the forums due to privacy concerns.
Thanks again for giving us an opportunity to help out, and let us know if you have any questions going forward. Cheers!
Ok so I’ve tried all the tech tricks. And nothing. I have deleted battle.net and wow and tried a fresh reinstall. It won’t let me. I have uninstalled my AVG that wasn’t it. I sent in the 2 files from his pc and account and got no help. My ticket was marked as answered when it wasn’t. We reset our net modems. I am at my end of things.
Howdy Kalakins,
Digging into your account I wasn’t able to find a ticket opened on it, please try creating another tech ticket via this Link Make sure you are signed into your account before submitting the ticket. Once we have the files we will see what is up.
That’s because it was my account. I’m the husband. But Kalakins went ahead and just gave me a fresh windows install. The game has downloaded. I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll be back for help if it still doesn’t want to work. Thanks for the help though.
