DF did NOT sell good.
“While early Dragonflight sales have not reached the level of the prior expansion, community feedback on the title has been positive.”

DF didn’t sell well this last quarter because most people who still play this 20 year old game are in it for the long haul and pre-purchase new expansions. Look at the previous quarter’s Q10.

Official earnings are 7.5B in 2022 vs 8.8B in 2021. EPS paints even an uglier picture. The stock is down 4%.

That is because they burned their good will with SLands… I have friends who have stated “I’ll never come back to Warcraft”… and I don’t doubt it. Systemlands was one grindfest to many

There’s a lot of metrics showing that Dragonflight hasn’t sold as well as Shadowlands. There were also less people doing raids, and less people doing Mythic+.
Shadowlands did also benefit from release timing, it came out at a much worse point in the pandemic so many people were looking for home entertainment instead of going out.

This number went a certain way, as a certified forum analyst i can now ascertain that blizzard is literally two seconds away from declaring bankruptcy.

I think we have already figured out that DF sold less than SLs because they didn’t announce “record setting” numbers. But I guess its an official confirmation about what we already knew.

True enough. I was not expecting a $1.3 billion loss though.

I think part of it is that Shadowlands sales were inflated by Covid and people needing something to do. Without that Shadowlands sales would have been comparatively lower.
Terrible customer service and the scandals hasn’t helped either.

This is not a bad earnings call. They’re doing fine and showing growth. (Blizzard overall, not necessarily the WC IP)

I wonder how much money Blizz got from the stimulus lol
Edit: to clarify, from people dumping their check into bnet balance

They were never going to set any records after SL, but I’m guessing it (DF) was profitable enough that they continue to invest in it.

Diablo Immortal and OW2 F2P probably made Blizzard more money than they’ve seen in many years.
AV and King obviously remaining top earners from the beginning.

There’s gloom and doom, and there’s an inevitable slowly creeping reality that we all know is coming.

Glancing through, although Activision and Blizzard hold up WoW and OW as the big boys, it would seem CoD ( even with a loss ) and mobile actually brought in the money overall.
It’s going to take us a while to heal from Shadowlands.

Rule of thumb: When the game is going well, bag prices are strong. When bag prices are low, that means players are not investing in their alts.
I paid 7g - 27g for bags on various servers yesterday.
