Latency Issue/World Lag spiking randomly

For the past few days I’ve had bad lag issues, sometimes it was later in the evening but it has been all day today so far. My world latency has gone as high as 8K today, and yesterday it was even at 10K. I’ve gone through my provider, performed resets and speed tests and they see nothing on their end and I’m having no issues with other applications. I have reset my interface with no changes or improvements to latency. I even rolled back my graphics driver since I updated it on the 14th, but the same issue persists.

These are the results of what I’ve done so far while creeping through the Tech Support pages:

That’s while it’s running decent-ish, at 170 home, 510 world by the in-game indicator. It seems to ramp up over time. I’ve never had this problem before and my computer is about 5 months old, an i9 with an RTX 4070 and 32 gigs of ram. Kind of at a loss of what to do. I did the pathping as well if needed.

This is a bit later, trying in content:

I saw someone suggest a VPN in an earlier thread so I tried it, and immediately I have the best connection I’ve had in days. Both home and world under 50ms. What does this even mean now… is my ISP throttling me?

You will want to get in touch with your ISP as this is on their end. The packets you are losing are causing the high latency. Using the VPN you rerouted the path the ISP takes to get to the blizzard servers to the VPN which is why you are seeing better latency.

Well it only worked for a couple of days. Now it does it even on VPN no matter the server I choose. This is getting pretty ridiculous, makes me not want to play.

In the test data you provided, Charter/Spectrum is responsible for the high latency. The ping jumps from 32ms to over 200ms on their network before reaching Blizzard.

Its across all Activision Blizzard titles.

Are you the OP or someone else experiencing the issue? Lag on an ISP node will show up on all things (games) hosted in the same place.

For the last six months, I’ve run a VPN (VPN Unlimited) through (or around) Breezeline (S. Florida) with no trouble on all programs except Battle.net, so I was really interested to read Spuuby’s comment that there was an initial success. Maybe try with other VPNs? I know the concept is that they all provide the same type of service but I’ve had very different experiences with some VPNs vs. others. Haven’t found any yet that work with Blizzard and no answer so far from the Blizz techs.

I’m having the same issue at the moment, seems to have started ever since season 3 dropped.

this is probably a duplicate of Frequent spikes in World latency

Not sure what you mean by this. I play on NordVPN relatively often with only a slight uptick in latency, but my home connection without a VPN is better.

Great news; I’ll try them again.
