Greetings!
So My wife has been wanting to get back into the game so she got her sub and I helped her update all her addons and before the game ran ok not perfect but where she was happy with it. Now all of a sudden it just randomly shuts down after two mins of playing the game.
It’s a Acer Predator Helios 300 if that helps. She has a cooling pad underneath it. As far as I Know this is the only game with this issue. She was playing Fall Guys & Phasmotobia the other night just fine. So I’m welcome to all suggestions.
Thanks!

got any pets? maybe it’s the overheating protection kicking in
Go to device manager and check all the drivers and also check Gforce experience which I assume you have. Maybe if its not the drivers…try uninstalling the game and do fresh install. Maybe check and make sure WoW and Battlenet are allowed through your firewall. Are your power settings set to high performance??
I’m at a loss of what to do right now… I’ve done a clean wipe in the laptop itself and the problem is still occuring. I also booted up my shelved desktop that was able to play WoW with no problems and it’s shutting down also like it’s doing the same thing.
All I have downloaded is Steam along with Battle.net with WoW, Dead by Daylight, Fall Guys and Phasmotobia.
I remember when a friend of mine came to me when his laptop was behaving the same way.
The way he described the problem, he would start using his laptop for the first time in the day, and he’ll use it for a long time until he does a task that puts a heavy load on the CPU, and it’ll shut down. If he tried to reboot it right away, it’d come on just fine, but since the CPU is already warm, he would only be able to use it for a shorter time.
I assumed there was a temperature issue since CPUs are designed to cut the system off when it reaches a certain temp threshold. When I took a look at his laptop, my hunch was correct: the vent where the CPU gets its air from was completely blocked off by a thick wad of orangish dust (he was a smoker), and in turn, that killed the CPU fan (assuming it struggled to pull air from a blocked vent).
I cleaned the vent and replaced the fan - it was working as normal.
Try Hailtofiré’s suggestion first to and check your power settings.
Then you should check to see if your CPU/GPU is getting the proper cooling; a cooling pad alone may not be enough if your hardware cooling solutions have failed, especially with specs like what that Acer has. Download the app CoreTemp and monitor your CPU/GPU temps. I can see WoW putting a heavier load than the other games your wife plays, hence why it cuts off with that game and works just fine with the others.

I search googles and apparently this laptop has a lot of shutting down by itself problems. try resetting and/or upgrading the BIOS
as for the desktop, is WoW the only game that is crashing it?
Nope. Fall Guys and Dead By Daylight will make it crash as well. I dropped the laptop off at a repair shop to look at it and it’s now going on day 2 since it’s been dropped off without a phone call with a update.
hm… i keep thinking that it’s overheating… the vents and fans are clean?
