UPDATE: please see my post at about 54
Just bought a MSI G65 Stealth 9750h 1660ti. I do not usually game on laptops, but I am giving it a try.
I think I may have a defective unit. My temps while playing wow at setting 10 in 1080p is mid 80s with peaks as high as 100. That is with the fan running as high as it gets. I also am getting high temps while just running windows updates.
What kind of temps are you guys getting on your laptops while playing wow? I may need to return this one
Couldnāt tell you my temperature, but it gets very hot to the touch on the keyboard area above the GPU. I highly recommend getting a laptop cooling pad with fansāIt helps significantly for a $30 investment.

I donāt monitor my laptopās temps, but I always use a laptop cooler as the base, and it keeps the underside of the laptop cool to the touch.
They are only $20 or $25 on Amazon, and as a measure to avoid temp issues and help to extend the life of the laptop, they seem like a reasonable investment to buy and use.
You may want to think about getting one of those and see what it does to help your temps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am trying this out because i will be traveling for 3-4 months and space is limited. I donāt think Iāll have the room to carry a laptop cooler.
WoW is very CPU intensive. Try dropping your FPS limit to 60. Your temps/fans should cool off
I locked mine to 55fps and my temps/cpu usage are great.
Note:
Processor is a i7 6600 | GPU: GTX 1070 | OS Win10

I had a problem like this with my old laptop with the āotherā wow, try making sure that the max FPS is limited - mine was jacking the game up way more than it needed to be and cooking my machine.

The 1660Ti immediately raises an eyebrow with me⦠I had one that flaked out almost immediately and downgraded it to a GTX 970. You donāt have the same options with a laptop⦠but I donāt trust that card.
For managing the heat? IMO the key is underside ventilation. I would recommend you hop over to Amazon and look for something like a āAICHESON Laptop Cooling Padā - $18

this belongs in the hardware section
will i get an answer in the hardware section?

Are you running with capped FPS?
If not, you should. Increasing FPS significantly increases processing power required and thereby waste heat generated.
I play on a completely unnecessary rig that can smoothly run 200+ FPS on Ultra for most modern games. BUT, this comes at a cost of ~10-15 degree celcius higher temps when I do. When I cap my FPS in Classic to 60, it runs comfortably in the 40ās all other settings still on Ultra as far as fidelity goes.
Give that a shot if you havenāt already. Do you really need more than 60 frames in a 15 year old MMO?
Also as others have mentioned. 100% invest in a decent cooling pad if you intend to do any amount of gaming on a laptop. This will prolong the life of your hardware significantly, and it well worth the investment.

If thatās all you got out of my post, then God Bless, and good luck friend.

Limit your FPS to whatever your monitorās refresh rate is. If itās still getting that hot, then itās probably defective or that model of laptop just has really poor cooling. Return it if possible.

Always have the laptop on a solid hard surface, such as a desk. You can get away with limited use on your lap such as checking email
Get a laptop cooler.
Realize that laptops are not really for your lap.

I have a Origin laptop with a desktop GTX 1070.

Ultra settings (10) usually ask for lots of extra power w/ minimal added benefit, start lowering the FPS limits and graphics settings a bit for heat and noise reduction.
Barring driver issues, your computer should be able to handle a maxed out WoW easily, doesnāt mean thereās any need to.
Laptop GPUs at this point are basically underclocked desktop GPUs, so you should expect high temps (maybe the manufacturer includes driver updates and hardware checks at the time of the Windows updates?).
edit: Are you using a 144fps model?
If so, if you are maxing everything out and running it at that sort of FPS, of course it will be running hot as all hell. You should also be going on MSI/NVIDIAās forums for more relevant results.
I want to say Classic will only give you smoother camera movement at that FPS, if the heat issues are really bothering you see if you canāt āsettleā for 120FPS.

I had the same problem with my Alienware M17 R2 after I set the graphic settings to 10. I now use the recommended settings (thereās a recommended button on the bottom left of the graphics settings), which sets mine to 7, and everything runs fine now; no heat issues.

On my cheapish Dell Inspiron with an Intel HD 620 the fan is completely off about 30% of the time. It spins up depending on the zone Iām in.
Quality settings: 3-ish
FPS cap: 40
Res: 1920x1080

Break warranty void sticker if you live in USA that sticker means nothing. Reapply thermal compound and recheck temps. 100c is very high for that unit. If you live in CA or EU then well sticker has meaning send it to MSI for warrantyā¦

Laptop cooler will shave off a few degrees for sure. Just make sure you get a good one. A lot of them suck.
Also, gaming on a desktop is way better ⦠just saying.
