Lag Spikes in world

I’ve seen the thread for all those affected in raid, but I’ve been having issues in raid and world. I’m curious if this is the same issue or my own special one. Latency is yo-yo 1k-8k

Hi Rezo

You have packet loss showing on the home network. Have you tried a power cycle of the devices.

Describe how you connect. Wireless or Ethernet cable. Router/Modem combination device or separate Router then Modem. Are there any other devices in line. Splitters - Switches - VoIP devices?

I’ve power cycled.
It’s all Ethernet connected, wired directly into the modem, which is also the router. No splitters or switches
just sweet simple plug and play

Who is your ISP? I have Cox and having latency issues but everything else outside of WoW seems fine.

Frontier.
Yeah I read the COX thing, has that been going on since yesterday?

Cox issue is a handoff to Blizzard deep on the backbone. We see packet loss right on the Router. Do you have any Killer Network or Dell Network management software installed?

Let’s run a quick Malware scanner:

If the scanner detects anything quarantine then paste the log on your thread here.

If you have another Ethernet cable swap it out. If you don’t unplug then plug back in the ends at both computer and router. Do it a few times can clean the connections somewhat.

Malware Scanner didn’t pick up anything, I unplugged the Ethernet and Power Cycled it all again. I don’t have any Killer Network or Dell Network software that I’m aware of. Booted it all back up, Latency 2116ms Home 1179 World, still experiencing intermittent lagging.

Let’s take a look at a DXDiag report Rezo.

The second section of page has DXDiag report instructions - we don’t require the MSinfo report.

That will be a wall of text. If you have issues pasting on the Forum here go ahead and put it up on pastebin.com. Provide the link code portion of the URL - example below.

(The green bold portion of the link: https://pastebin.com/**Qk28Ed1P**)

Try the standard DNS flush - IP renew:

Pu6aTEYy

Did a DNS flush about 3 hours ago in an attempt to fix this

The Alienware notebook has Killer Networking - check these settings.

  1. Open Killer Control Center (can be done from windows search)
  2. Click the settings cogwheel in the bottom left
  3. Disable Advanced Stream Detect

Test afterwards. If that doesn’t help let’s reinstall the Killer Networking. Go to your notebooks support page here:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/product-support/product/alienware-17-laptop/drivers

Use the dropdown arrow beside the Category section then select Network. Download this driver:

Killer E2400/2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller Driver Network 11 Jan 2019

Create a System Restore point < type that in Windows Search box.

Install new driver

Another thought comes to mind here. You might try setting up a WiFi connection to test.

Had to install the Killer Control Center from scratch, because it must have somehow gotten deleted. I’ve also turned off the Advanced Stream Detect. While it’s somewhat better than it was before, the lag still persists.
Ran a Timewalking dungeon, lagged out 3 times.
Ran another, only didn’t lag enough to defeat the bosses, was lagged out, immobile for most of the trash.
The latency is with in a more acceptable range, I could try a WiFi connection, but historically, that’s worse.

EDIT: confirmed, tried it for 15 mins, much worse, lag turns into complete disconnection from game

Hi again Rezo.

Let’s have a look at another WinMtr

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

We still see a small amount of packet loss Rezo. Seems we are on to something though. The Killer Control Center you installed was that from Dell or Killer themselves?

There is a thread here with more Official information regarding Killer networking issues - generally it seems to be more disconnect related:

The Killer Control Center I installed was from the Dell link you sent me. I just a few moments ago got a notification that Killer Control needed to do a BIOS update, I was about to log in and see if that helped at all.
I’m not usually having disconnection issues, just lag that lasts 15-30 seconds sometimes. While, that might seem like much, I’m unable to raid or M+ with that kind of lag

Take a look through the post I linked. There is prioritization setting mentioned. Test that.

When I first downloaded the Killer Control Center, I made a point to turn off the Advance Stream Detect, and while I was in there, I prioritized all the Blizzard stuff. However, when I turn off the Advance Stream Detect, that option is grayed out. So I guess I’ll try it with the Stream Detect on?

That didn’t seem to help… I’m gonna go a full reset and try again.
Here’s the WinMTR I took after the BIOS Update

You know Rezo this could be a possible ISP issue. Perhaps a problem with the Router/Modem which I imagine is owned by the ISP. The connection from computer to router is fine. No packet loss and low latency. It is the second hop where we see the problem start. That could be the modem part of the router or the first switch outside your residence.

The router should have a reset button. You would press with a pin or a pen tip. See if you can find one and press then hold down for 30 seconds. Will reset things to factory defaults.

Reset it, let it sit for about an hour, qued into a dungeon, and I’ve still got issues.
I’ll put a call into my ISP, unless you can think of anything else, thank you for your help.

Let’s run some Tracert tests Rezo. See if we can catch the packet loss on a Tracert which is a standard test. Would be nice to give to the ISP. (Lower level ISP representatives may not know what a WinMTR is)
