Lag since TWW launch

So ive been experiencing lag since TWW has launched. Some days its been horrible, some days its been great. Well fast forward to november / decemeber. Whatever blizzard did to their servers in chicago or in general, the lag is extremely noticeable. Fast forward to season 2 pre patch. That whole week the game was averaging around 300-500 ms world and home was 30-50 ms. There were times that world spiked well above 1k and 2k and stayed like that for a while and home just stayed at its normal 30-50ms. Now that got me thinking, what could possibly cause those issues. So i went and wiped my PC, bought new SSD’s, bought new fans and ram. Booted everything back up, reinstalled everything and addons. Still the exact same thing.

Scheduled tech’s to come out dozens of times since august and each time they find NOTHING. not a single thing wrong with my ISP. well today, tech was out, found nothing, modem was good, ethernet was good, nodes were good. had him replace my coax cable leading into my place and yet and behold the same thing, GOOD! Yet, i log into the game and its a lag fest. 220 world, 27 home on mal’ganis. so i ping mal’ganis server, 3200ms is whats its pinging for blizzards server in chicago… like HOW TF are their servers so horrible!

Ive used GPN’s, VPN’s and those dont do a darn thing to help when it comes to blizzards servers being a crap show and a half. Sure i could transfer to other servers since im CST, but i shouldnt need to transfer to other servers to have a stable connection to a blizzard server!

So what can we as players do to fix this issue, cuz im at a standpoint right now and im beginning to get extremely annoyed. We pay a monthly sub and buy off of the cash shop and this crap continues to go on for months! hell its been going on for 7+ months and im sure its actually been going on for over a year honestly!

Maybe it’s routes into Chicago from certain places? If it was Chicago as a whole, there would be an absolute flood of posts here that wouldn’t stop until the problem was fixed. Most of my time has been spent on Chicago servers since the expansion launched. This week I played a bunch, finished the campaign, hit 2k rating, and continued farming crests and gear. My ping has been a steady 56ms home/world from the South to Chicago.

Are you maybe joining groups that are on Oceanic servers?

When connecting to the VPN you mentioned, are you choosing Chicago as the location?

What is your home internet setup? What type of internet is it? It’s sounding kind of like 5G/Starlink with those latency values.

So like do we east coast players that are affected by this just have to bite it and accept that we can no longer play? Or have to spend a ridiculous amount of money to move characters to servers not affected by this? My characters on Lothar are not getting any of this horrible world ms. But all my characters on Dalaran are. Done everything within my power to see if it’s on my side but it’s hard to believe when my fiancé is also experiencing it and nothing else is affected by it, no other game app nothing everything else runs smoothly

Who said that? What a weird takeaway from my set of questions. Maybe if someone gives more information (like answers to the questions), then the volunteers in this forum can help.

Unless “everything else” is hosted in the same Google datacenter, then that comparison is irrelevant.

oh yes 5g/starlink ya bafoon! seriously… the servers have been dogsheet just like they are now. so stop defending blizzard on sheet servers.

Satellite internet, like Starlink, doesn’t meet the system requirements for WoW. It uses line-of-sight to make connections, which isn’t as stable as regular broadband (landlines).

Blizzard has no control over when a DDoS will happen. If you know of technology that predicts DDoSes and prevents them, share it with the world.

youre correct, no one has control over when a Ddos happens besides the people that organize it. As for counter measures, there are plenty of things that can prevent a ddos attack. hell mobile game servers are more optimal than blizzard servers and that should tell you something!

Mobile game servers are never dealing with the scale of attack that Blizzard game servers are, so that’s a strange comparison.

why is that a strange comparison ? ? ?
WOW active players 7.75m with half if not more than half being bots
Call of duty mobile almost 60m players!!!

Thats over 50m players more than wow has! So dont sit here and defend blizzard and Activision on how bad they are on their performance for keeping servers updated and up to par!

I get it, you’re upset you’re having trouble staying connected to WoW, so you’re lashing out in every thread where you can find me.

Please take a moment to consider your responses. WoW servers are all online, guilds are raiding on Twitch without issues, and ranting at a volunteer isn’t going to resolve your problem.
