Lag problem since new Wifi Router

Folks, I am having lag issues on my desktop since yesterday, coinciding with my new Netgear WiFi R6350 router use. My desktop is equipped with AC 9260 network card. AFAIK, I have the latest driver and my router firmware was also updated when I newly installed it. also, in speedtest net, I have low pings (less than 15) and good DL/UL speeds (70+/15+). but my lag in game is 300+ for both home and world.

My son’s desktop also has a MB network card but that is working just fine without lag.

any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

You may have to open some ports on that new router.

Thank you for the reply. If you can provide instructions regarding how to open a new port that would he really great.
best,

I think it might be as simple as running battle.net as a administrator, not real sure.
Just a sec and I will look…

Hey there,

I would double check to see which wifi band that your PC is connecting to, and compare that to what the other PC is connected to. If they are on different wifi bands (2.4ghz versus 5ghz) try swapping to the one that the working PC is using and see if that is better.

If there’s a lot of objects, walls, floors, etc between your PC and the router then the 2.4ghz wifi may be better as it has more penetration. May be more stable. But try both 2.4ghz and 5ghz to see which works best, since it will also depend on how crowded the wifi channels are in your area.

Hello, thanks for the message.
I tried both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz channels and same results in both cases. There are no significant physical barriers between the router and the desktop is in fact right next to the router. also, my old WD router worked just fine. it is just that the new one is giving massive lags.

You may need to consult the router manufacturer for some tips on setup since you know it’s the source of the problem.

Are you able to plug into the router with an ethernet cable if the router is that close to your desktop? If the lag goes away that should at least confirm that it’s a problem with the wifi.

Assuming nothing has changed with your network adapter on the PC, has any new network software been installed since getting the new router? Things like QoS (quality of service) or traffic prioritization software might end up causing issues instead of helping with the connection.

I used ethernet from the router and it did not fix the problem. apparently there is no lag. so looks like the wifi is the issue?

thanks.

That would confirm WiFi is the issue. You could try switching channels as mentioned earlier for one with less crowding. Ultimately, you may need to get assistance from the manufacturer, a local network technician, or a friend/family member who can investigate the setup.
