Lag only in raids

Does anyone else lag ONLY in raids? It feels like it’s only on hardmodes too. I’ve done the usual and turned off addons, turned down graphics, disabled weakauras, but nothing is helping. Does anyone have a work around?

Are you by chance running a gaming laptop with an Nvidia graphics card and a default Intel GPU? Or do you have multiple graphics cards on your computer?

I get lag when I run discord all of a sudden.

Might wanna try disabling the game overlay feature if enabled.

I never lag in raids until last night. Was getting huge lag spikes in Naxx.

If you use a laptop it may be overheating.

Maybe it’ll save you like it saved me, Druid Discord told me to disable BigDebuffs, it indeed brought me back up to stable framerate. Unsure the framerate as I didn’t check, but the constant frame drops and tearing are entirely gone.

Questie also turned off, I’ve done that every raid since BWL.

If you do actually mean LAG lag then I apologize because I’m just assuming everyone here means framerate lmao

It’s probably a communication-type mod like DBM, Method Raiding Tools, or a mod using HealingComms. The reason for the lag would then likely be because of how many other clients you’re communicating with.

Could also be a WeakAura tripping out.

Try:

Curse Site: wow/addons/addon-usage

You’ll need to run it during raids, and it WILL impact performance because it’s monitoring. But it should help figure out if it’s a mod causing the issue.

Is the Discord ‘Ingame Overlay’ enabled? Or is the Discord “Clips” (in beta) enabled; it reads like it might be a Nvidia Shadowplay alternative.

General PSA: Nvidia’s Shadowplay (AMD might have an equivalent too) is a real nuisance when it comes to system resources. Disable that.

Turn off you weakauras, see if that fixes it… I had to eliminate some of mine.

I’m going to look into that tonight. Whatever it is causes a huge delay on key inputs and the voice coms in discord drop out simultaneously.

Yes, I posted this recently in the tech support part of discord. Turns out it was an addon I’ve had since classic days called “bigwigs” and it apparently doesn’t like SoD raids because whenever I raided during a hardmode since the days back in BWL trial mode, it often caused me to lag and this got worse up to naxx hardmodes.

Also, in the past, whenever I had browers like softreserve website open while in the game, often it would either D/C me or just cause my gameplay to lag a bit, so if turning ALL your addons off didn’t work, maybe close any internet windows you have in the background as well.

Wish you luck! Maybe jump into the technical support forum if any responses here didn’t work.

If you turn off all adons and it still doing it might be your pc. I would ctrl alt delete then press task manager. See how much cpu, memory or even disk space. Most people that play wow don’t really have gamer conputers so it can’t really handle much other than wow

I couldn’t find anything named “in game overlay” in discord settings.

My current laptop is orders of magnitude better than the old one , so much so it looks like I’m playing a different game altogether.

The old one had no issue with discord though.

For me it was actual lag, like I push a button and nothing happened or took 2-3 seconds to register. Framerate wasn’t affected. Possibly could have been my internet but I haven’t had anything like that happen before.

Discord Settings, down near the bottom the section says, “Activity Settings”, with sub-sections, “Activity Privacy”, “Registered Games”, and “Game Overlay”.

It’s off by default, I think.

PS: “Clips” (sounds like Discord’s version of Nvidia Shadowplay) is under the section, “User Settings”. This should also be off by default, but since it’s ‘in beta’, they might have turned it on for some Discord users as part of their testing.

Basically, be looking at any app that puts Overlays in games: Nvidia Shadowplay, AMD’s equivalent (if they have one), Steam (if you added WoW as a ‘non-Steam game’, Discord, Windows Game Bar, Overwolf.

You may also just be at the limits of the hardware. My old system ran TBC (OG) just fine in raids. Wrath (OG) hit and suddenly it was a PowerPoint show in raids; no new addons.

And while we think Classic is static, it’s not. The Classic Client was originally set in Legion/BfA, but has been upgraded to, I believe Dragonflight (if not TWW). Which means the hardware requirements have slowly been inching up even though they haven’t updated the requirements.

Appreciate the info. It’s definitely not a hardware issue.

I found clips and it was turned on so I disabled that. Will find overlay when I get home, thx for the road map to it.
