Ladder servers

Will there be an annual fresh server so people can compete for world firsts every year with their character rolling back into the constant servers at the end of the year?
Sort of like diablo 3 seasons.

That’s more or less how the private server world has survived forever.

There are no world firsts to be had in Classic. Server firsts, but not world firsts.

  • Right, that’s what I meant.

As it stands we don’t have any word on that. But seeing as they want Classic to be a museum piece and not all of the content is even going to be available in the first year, I am going to say highly unlikely.

I mean, I am using D3 as a common point of reference but this is how vanilla servers outside of blizzard have worked for the past 10 years. For people who don’t play/know about how vanilla servers work, D3 ladders may be a good comparison.

They work like that because Blizzard keeps shutting them down, so they have to keep making new ones to stay ahead of Blizzard.

Also the Diablo model works for Diablo because every time you “beat the game” you can start back at the beginning on a harder difficulty with all the gear you collected and then collect the same gear again, but better.

Even if you beat Kel’Thuzad in Classic, there is no new difficulty to start over with. There is no “paragon” system to keep leveling up with either.

In D3 u get to be max level in one day, get max geared in a week. Season lasts around 3 months.

In classic u will level60 in ~14 days, get max geared in 2 years.
Classic seasons would have to last 8 years?

He actually has a point about private servers, there’s this so called “fresh hype” that happens everytime a new server launches. I’ve not been very long on the private server scene and it’s a thing I don’t quite understand but yes people there just give up entirely their progress, not because there’s a DMCA from Blizzard but because they just want to have another shot at progressing.
And no rerolling isn’t the same, they want to be on a server without bored people in T3 facerolling everything and camping them. (there’s such thing as progression guilds, but most people don’t like them because of how casual they are)

There is obviously demand for a server like this, but myself? I wouldn’t touch a server like that with a 10 foot pole. (And why I only played on private servers once…the “reset” hit me like a truck and I never looked back)

No. This is WoW, not diablo.

Why would we be concerned with “fresh” servers when we haven’t cleared current servers. For that matter, we don’t even have current servers.

This isn’t a ladder game, go play diablo or poe.

We don’t even know how many RPPVP or RPPVE let alone the amount of PVP/PVE realms and you goofs want laddered servers as well?

LADDER SERVERS WEREN’T IN CLASSIC, NO CHANGES.

Well, then it’s a good thing that within the 1st year, no one will even be able to step foot in Naxx, so there won’t be an issue on that front.

I don’t think they would make a public decision on something like this until Classic has been out a bit.

Something to consider though is that could be very harmful to the game. For a certain type of player the allure of “fresh” is very strong.

I could imagine healthy vibrant servers becoming ghost towns overnight with servers like these in place. So for the health of the game it might be a pretty bad idea.
