Lack of Spanish/Portuguese realms is a problem

I can’t be the only one that’s a bit annoyed by the language barrier that exists with what feels like 35% of my realm on Faerlina. It’s not the worst thing ever but when you have someone in your group that literally can’t understand anything you’re saying especially when they’re playing poorly or missing a mechanic, it makes the dungeon grinding experience that much worse. I shouldn’t have to remove people from my group just for speaking another language. Sometimes I feel left out of the convo or confused when I’m the minority and I don’t know what the rest of my group is saying. The lack of foresight from Blizzard for another fixable issue is ridiculous. Spanish and Portuguese speakers obviously make up a huge population of this game and the mega server queue burden might have been eased by creating South American servers and allowing free transfers towards the end of TBC

I wanted to make a post about this but you’re 100% right, part of the reason why LFG died on Grobb is the language barrier problem, there are too many people who don’t speak English that queue up and they often times are just playing the game in their own world it seems and never communicate or even take the time to learn how to.

I had one of the worst experiences in LFG the other day with a DK DPS who refuses to swap off Blood spec as he was supposed to be our DPS and after asking him to swap 6 times we had to kick him only to bring another person who also was bad at English ninja loot the orb and epic at the end and said “I needed mone :p”

Like there’s nothing wrong with not speaking English, we can work with you but when the 90% or more of the server is English speakers you should at least have the common respect to learn how to communicate properly and not make people hate you by griefing their groups.

Now a days I don’t even use LFG anymore because the quality of players in there is so bad.

…okay what am i reading?

Exactly, idk why but it seems like almost always it’s a DK that has no idea how to play their class and they go mute because they can’t respond to your questions or suggestions. I actually feel bad for these people too because if they were on a server with a majority people that spoke their language, it would be much easier for them to cooperate and learn how to play the game especially if they’re actually new to their class or WotLK in general

Dude imagine we go to a primarily non English server and spoke a language many of them didn’t understand and we did the same thing that’s happening to us on these servers lol, I bet they’d feel the exact same way too.

I don’t mind it too much because at least on my server the spanish guilds seem to attempt to be semi competent based on what I can read from their recruitment messages.

I made a post on this recently. Grobb has become overrun with South Americans. Some try and communicate and speak English but the majority either can’t or don’t want too. I have been leveling my alt and 8 out of 10 dungeons I run have non English speaking people who won’t buff you, won’t listen to anything you say, and are pretty rude. Had a few roll on items that their class doesn’t even use or it’s just plain bad and then say “no habla English” after like that’s supposed to mean something after you just ninjad our loot. Yesterday I died in the nexus after pulling aggro on an aoe pack and the BR healer just left me even after saying please res…etc I ended up just quitting.

Oh definitely, I’ve heard of English speakers receiving bans in OW2 for playing on Asian servers during launch queue times. I’m not sure how true that actually is but in classic, the option isn’t even there for everyone to play on servers with their native language so they couldn’t even enforce it if they wanted to

And this is the reason people wanted to blacklist Ragnaros on retail.

I have nothing against South Americans too, it’s a NA server and I know some Hispanic communities belong in that region so it is what it is and I have met some very competent Hispanic players as well.

But yes my experience is similar to yours a lot where the refusal to even try and speak English really sucks, it makes runs a nightmare because you never know what you’re going to get.

I stopped asking for gearscore and I started just handing out literacy tests in the forms of multiple simple English sentences to see if the person can respond properly or not and that’s my new way to bring people in or not through LFG lmao, that’s how bad it’s gotten on Grobb.

That’s the unfortunate thing right, Classic doesn’t seem to be as supported as other Blizzard projects so a lot of these people end up using NA as their home base because they don’t have another option.

I can’t even blame them, I would do it too but I just think it’s wrong to not try and understand the primary language or even attempt to.

It’s so easy to google translate now too, if someone doesn’t understand English they can easily translate it to their native language and then translate it back. Even putting in SOME effort is better than putting in none at all imo.

Grobb is a mega server with people all over the world, from South America to China… However from my interactions ive never had a language problem, 99% of people seem to be anglophones or speak some basic form of english.

Its hilarious when they link items in trade chat though. i have this chinese guy i cut gems for (i know because he links the gems in chinese) and he tips very generously lol

Damn you just brought back a suppressed memory, back in shadowlands I’d automatically assume anyone from Rag was going to be non-cooperative, or just flat out suck at the game.

I have never seen this as problem. If I am grouped with someone who doesn’t type in English I just have Google Translate open in another window and use that to communicate. It’s incredibly easy to use.

I’ve by far have had the most horrible grouping experiences with people who type in English and are from majority english speaking servers.

To me, it is quite an annoying problem when I have to sit there and waste time to copy/paste lines of text in and out of Google translate just for basic communication with a dungeon group. There are cases where I don’t even know what languages they do speak since they often go mute and refuse to type anything back, defeating the opportunity to even use translate to get through to them. These situations typically always end up in a kick and replacement, which I’d ideally like to avoid all together

It takes literally seconds to copy and paste. Even if you don’t know the language google will tell you once you place the sentence into the search engine. It’s more of a hassle to continue to fail as a group and not communicate.

If they aren’t communicating back then that has nothing to do with the language they use in group; you’ll find that very common with English typing players too.

Why is that the collective coping mechanism of every player in this game? The whole mentality of “it doesn’t happen to me or I’m not bothered by it, so just because of that you should just deal with it.”

The point to be made here is that it’s an inconvenience on both parties, native English speakers and not, to be forced to play with each other and adapt to the language barrier rather than avoiding the problem in the first place by making the game with some semblance of structure and consideration for players in different ethnic communities and or parts of the world.

Blood spec can do some pretty good damage. If they wouldn’t get out of frost pres then I could get the kick for that, as aggro would be messy.

On Classic Era servers, Blizzard had a brazilian realm called Sulthraze, and then let people free transfer to there.
The server has born already dead.
The few brazilians who tranfered to there, regreted it so hard.
I TRULY doubt that any brazilian would transfer to a BR Realm again on any state of the classic experience.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m brazilian and i try my best to communicate in english, aside of my grammar mistakes and poor phrase formulation, but i know there’s A LOT of people of my country that can’t speak english (nor spanish, that i find HARDER to speak than english).

Maybe one day someone can make a translation addon to ease this language barrier a little…

They had servers for their region but they never stay there, for whatever reasons. So Blizzard just didn’t bother this time.

Didn’t it also have poor routing and SA players would have better pings playing in NA servers?
