Settled on my character, but I’m utterly disheartened by the lack of interest in RP by top guilds on the server even still. I see more often than not people with obscene names that clearly don’t fit the RP guidelines :/. I might just have to stick to retail for RP, which sucks because I was absolutely looking forward to RPing Old Horde stuff or w/e
If any of y’all wanna link up in game add Mogrik! I’ll still be leveling him hopefully to max.

I read all the posts in this thread with more than a little trepidation. I was hoping to find a Horde side Guild that would help introduce my wife and I to Roleplaying, while still doing some questing and dungeons with Guildmembers. If such a Guild exists, please let me know. If not, I will keep an eye on this thread, if any of you decide to start such a Guild, let me know and we would be happy to sign your charter, etc.

I see lots of RP events and guilds looking for more RP members on the Horde side. If you’re not already aware, join /LookingForGroup. It is a server-wide LFG (for all types of LFG) and most of the RP recruitment (other than main city channels) is done there.

Maerlyn is very nice and you should definitely join their guild if you’re looking for some actual Forsaken RP.
Mostly you will have to look for it. I know of a few guilds that are RP focused. Reach out and invite people to join in on events. I don’t really see many events in any chats being advertised. A lot of us that focus on pve/pvp would join in on the fun but just don’t know about it. I rolled on this server wanting a nicer community and to check out the RP life, but I was only ever interested in it very casually, and I wanted to get into raiding and do some pvp. But I definitely would attend events if you don’t mind someone super casual. The last event I even saw advertised was for Halloween, but I didn’t see it advertised often and didn’t remember the approximate date for it. I did however see a small “wedding” in Org the other day, and gave them each a gift of 1g, so there’s that.

I haven’t had time to get Hordeside lately but have been following this thread, and wanted to thank you for this in particular. I’ve been posting my event here and on the discords but what has brought people in has been mentioning it in channels a half hour or so before and while it’s ongoing. But having read this here, I’ve redoubled my efforts and I’m now doing a quick mention in whatever zone I’m in whenever I’m playing, because wow, yes, you never know when there is a roleplayer or RP-curious person out there just not knowing if or when anything is going on.
I see “ads” for guilds/raid groups/mages selling water, etc. etc. in the chat channels all the time, no big deal. I have had a hesitance about advertising RP events likewise – I don’t know about anyone else but even on this One RP-PVE server it’s still like… can we really RP here? Is there room for us, too? But EVERY TIME I have promoted an event in the channels I’ve eventually gotten a whisper asking further info or a thank you.
I know it’s not Horde-specific but I wanted to add that note of encouragement to advertise events in the chat as much as possible. In the month or so I’ve been doing it now I have had exactly 0 griefers take advantage of the invitation.

I must apologize for not getting my RP Horde Guild LustMord underway on the promised Sunday.
The Yuletide turned out to be much more of a busy season for me than I anticipated.
Qthulhu has the Guild Charter now, and I will be bringing him on this Christmas Eve evening, and on Christmas Day for any potential (and forgiving) signers.
And I feel I must apologize again for bringing Q on during a busy familial and social holiday.
Please forgive me, and rest assured, if not in that cliche phrase, than in knowing I will do my utmost to bring Q on again this coming Sunday, and regularly in the New Year.
Let’s unite, and make one of our (cliche) resolutions to sail Bloodsail into the new-to-chart unknown and fantastic fun of becoming the premiere (and only, for that matter) PvE RP server in our beloved Classic VVoVV…

I did a lot of rp back in the day but as the years rolled by I did less and less. Good rp takes a pretty large investment in time and energy and I’m not sure I want to invest that energy into it this time around. But here’s a suggestion to kick start it. If some decently sized guild took over a building in a major city and created a pub that was open many hours with drinks etc. and waiters/bartenders I bet people would start showing up. Worked very well on other servers I was on back in vanilla and bc

IMHO OBSERVATIONS & CONCLUSIONS:
First, I agree that roleplay-focused guilds on the Horde side of BB are very rare, unlike WrA for example. I agree that causes are:

Server population skews heaily to the alliance (as any Horde PvPer here will tell you).

Many non-RPers picked this as their classic server (for various reasons).
There are some active RP guilds, but you need to spend time in-game looking around to track them down. I have seen an orc-focused guild periodically advertising in Orgrimmar, and a tribal style guild advertising generally and active in Thunder Bluff (although both guilds admit any race interested in that theme). In addition, this thead has mentioned three guilds (Darkmoon Faire, All Who Wander, LustMord), and mentioned a fourth (Royal Apothecary Society).
Unlike WrA (Wyrmrest Accord), the most active horde RP server for retail play, just wandering around looking for RPer “hangouts” and activity isn’t enough. You actually have to devote serious effort to tracking down guilds, talking with their leaders, and trying them out to determine which one you might like.
TL;DR SUGGESTIONS DEPARTMENT:
As some have mentioned, I do wish that existing RP guilds would advertise both recruitment and their events in-game a bit more.
Personally, I have a preference for guilds who want the main guild chat channel to be IC. The few times I’ve seen this, it greatly enhanced the roleplay aspect of the guild, as well as forestalling people who join guilds out of a need for attention/drama. Alas, IC guild chat is still rare, despite WoW’s ability to form special channels for OOC as needed.
I have also seen guilds (on WrA) use simple d20 rolls for managing RP events, while avoiding all the baggage of a formalized d20 system. After all, not everyone is familiar with d20 style D&D, much less trying to map D&D character classes onto WoW classes!
Finally, I would encourage all RPers to be IC in everyday interactions with other horde members on the server. Although events sometimes need chat in private channels, remember that “you reap what you sow” in RP, as in much else. Therefore, the more you try to interact IC, the greater your chance of encountering like-minded individuals.

Admittedly I’m rather new to the feeling of role-playing in a MMO, but the small amounts I’ve done were fun and I’m interested for more. I know a few folks in my guild do have TRP character information set up, but at the moment it feels like a ‘dating site’ in regards to having one but not using/acting upon it.

Last night, I went to that MoonGuard server in retail that I’ve been hearing so much about.
I went to Stormwind City and, holy cow, it seemed like everyone had the Total RP addon! Everyone had a profile! I was so impressed!
I have never seen such a massive amount of people in the Park! On Classic Bloodsail, it’s amazing if there’s, like, one other person in the park.
This is clearly where the RPers are! Where all the action’s at!
This is an important observation – I know Wyrmrest Accord on retail is also a very busy RP server (that’s where most of my old RP crew ended up.) And for those enjoying retail and invested long-term in their characters and their character’s stories, that’s where they are going to be, on the RP servers in retail.
Interestingly, a little over a year ago I rolled a new character on Moonguard to see if I could get into WoW again, and played to 105 or so. I did see the RPers in the cities like you mentioned, but saw next to no one out in the world, and when you’re leveling, just seeing other characters’ TRP descriptions can feel like “company”. I have loads of issues with retail but one of the biggest is that I like to feel like I’m in a populated world, and Classic does that much better than Retail by avoiding phasing, summoning stones, group finder, etc.
That said, what we’ve ended up with here are either RPers like me who don’t like retail’s gameplay but still love to RP in WoW, or those new to RP and/or WoW, or some who play/RP in both – and from that, those who want a PvE server instead of PvP. That is a small fraction of the WoW RP community, even if it is concentrated on one server, and the even smaller numbers of horde players here make those RPers seem even more scarce. (I RPed on Shadow Council, and some on Wyrmrest Accord, for over six years, and have seen only two or three players I knew from those servers here on Bloodsail.)
Which is why it’s so important to advertise and RP openly and promote RP. Like the RPers are out there but spread thin, you could say, because there are relatively few, yes, compared to the retail servers. But if you don’t want to play retail, this is what we’ve got. And every new zone I get into I see RP profiles I haven’t seen before, so they are out there!! Just need to bring people together.

I love rp, but most of the people I interact with are just not into it, or they just want to meet up in a bar and get drunk. This is not rp I enjoy. I know many people think getting drunk and doing silly things IC is fun. Good for them and if that is what you enjoy, have fun!
The rp I would really like to invest time in involves doing things together, IC. Like all the traveling we have to do, would be a lot more fun if we discussed things as we run along the road. Or discovering new territory, IC. Maybe you just need to get some flight points, it can be a long run, full of peril. You ask one of your guild mates who is higher level to escort you. Do it IC!
So many ways you can incorperate the fun of rp in everyday activities. Try it!
