Lack of raid utility for Ret

Currently ret has an okay place within PVP, and even mythic +s if done correctly (WoG can save groups, especially during necrotic).
However, for raids they are rated the worst do to bring along. Ret can BoK and Wisdom to one target each, which in raid scenarios is very, very small. Dont get me started on being buffed for 10 secs when a raid member dies. Ret delivers okay single Target and below average cleave/aoe. I'm not asking for ret to be buffed into oblivion, but having some raid utility would be extremely useful. Every other melee DPS offers something to the table, so why not ret? It sucks to parse orange while others parse blue, get 4th on DPS, and offer nothing in raid utility.

I believe the PVP talent luminense (20% healing affecting the paladin aoes surrounding him/her) would fix this issue. Perhaps a weaker form for raid settings, but regardless, I feel it fits with the theme of being a paladin. Try it out, devs! Considering most fights involve stacking, I can assure you ret paladins would be much more sought after.

Thoughts? Other ideas to fix lack of raid utility? Battle res? Old BoM or BoK back?

No blessings, no auras, no seals = no raid utility.

The paladin was once a support class. No more.

I wouldn't say it's a lack of utility, it's a lack of spammable utility.

For example BoP is useful on Zul because you can BoP the off tank and immediately remove the debuff that could otherwise kill him. It negates a whole ton of damage. The problem in this case however is that we get one charge of BoP to use it on.

BoF could have been useful as well, but it only works on 1/5th of all raid mechanics.

Even if we could spam it we wouldn't. It is only good in that situation because it is planned. In the majority of situations where BoP could help it is better to not use it because it will drop agro on the tank. You can use it on a DPS but usually it doesn't save them unless they have agro for some reason. A lot of the group wide damage that you would want it against is magic and they die through the shield.

At this point I'd sacrifice my BoP for a GoAK that acts like shaman earth elemental. It would be more useful in M+ and only missed in maybe one or two raid bosses.

You're somewhat right, but holy can do the same thing. Ret needs something to distinguish itself from other melee DPS (DH increases magic damage taken, feral temp buffs, rogue for oodles more do, etc). Why bring a ret DPS when you could bring anything else ?
they need to give ret battle rez, it was the ultimate warcraft 3 ability; it should never had been a druid ability in the 1st place. Now that more classes have it, and pally is no longer alliance only ret or pally in general need to get their lore based ability.

I'd like a B-Rez. I pitched changing our garbage Retribution passive to an automatic Ardent Defender on the nearest party member that would otherwise die.
Both great ideas. I firmly believe that lore wise and in use abilities they have could offer us that wouldn't render us "OP".
I have no idea how OP it would be, but that automatic Ardent Defender on ally within range is very interesting Kenosis. I don't know about giving Ret a BRez, however that Ardent Defender is a pretty cool idea. The fact that it wouldn't conflict with BRez cooldown, but a trade off is we don't pick who gets it, just the first to die near us. It's also a unique ability only Ret would have.

I think this patch they kinda just gave us a B rez… however it seems to be very limited. You have to use it within a very specific amount of time after someone dies, but more so, it’s a freaking 6 second cast? Why? Other B rez is instant cast is it not? Why the need to make ours a very long cast time?

Oh and yeah, it’s also required to be talented… not baseline… so sad.

Pretty sure it is a pvp talent.

what they could have done was add the new pvp talent as our passive. if someone dies we get 5 seconds of AW and if a brez is available we can cast redemption with a full cast time. would have a good skill gap on who could use it effectively within the time limit (like in pvp) but would also give us the damage increase that the passive does normally.
