When I think of a Demon Hunter, I think of the armor types we got in legion when the class was first introduced into the game. We rip the souls out of the enemies we kill. I don’t think of fairy wings or pretty dresses or whatever the armor type we’re seeing in TWW. I want my demon hunter feel fierce and threatening, scary, with spikes and skulls, and soul crushing death metal type of deal.
It seems like they stopped caring about our class fantasy when it comes to armor after Legion ended. I keep trying to create something new with the feel that our class should have and it always falls short and I’m still using our class hall gear because that is the only armor that truly feels like something we should be wearing?
I don’t know maybe I just don’t have the proper gear but I’m having trouble finding anything outside of Legion that fits.
agreed but without the skulls. Skulls make me think of warlock.
I would agree that the themes generally try and follow the raid+class. I don’t mind this tier look, but I do wish they would do something about the chest mog for female demon hunters. It often looks weird with odd placement of armor.
I was noticing that going through my transmog collections and the sets tab looking at the last few expac’s raid tier sets. I was wanting to do some transmog runs and then realized like. Oh. There’s nothing that I actually want to go back and get.
Then there’s the issue that since Legion they’ve been super hesitant on making, dare I say it, ‘slutty’ mogs for Demon Hunters. I play the masculine model, but even if I was playing the feminine one, part of the fantasy is that their tattoos are part of their defense, their skin is supposed to be literally demonically altered to be stronger, all the Legion stuff was super open and ripped and oftentimes borderline shirtless to show off the unique tattoos and play into that badass monstrous elf aesthetic.
Like, if I wanted to not be mostly shirtless, I can go play my rogue and wear all my other cool leather armor. I want my stuff to look like demon hunter gear. It shouldn’t be bulky and covering everything and my awesome tattoos up. I’ve been rocking the just loincloth and weapons only for a long time. Tried to make something different last night from that and all of them feel so lackluster.
I have to disagree, I mean have you even seen the new set for demon hunters for the anniversary event? it’s literally a chest piece with a choker and seems to be designed around the body 2 model. As far as i can tell almost every set that has been made is always a variation or degree of shirtless or rags, straps & chains for chest piece armor. Their sets are always usually shirtless with pants or skirt and most of the pants are just wraps that show off lots of skin still.
personally I dislike the whole shirtless thing. i think having the mindset of “they have to show off their tattoos/skin” is what adds to the issue of their sets being so bland and uninspired. There is very little theme to build upon when that is all their armor styles are based around.
this is just my opinion but, I think some of the issue with glaive design is they sometimes add unnecessary oversized assets on them like horns or emblems making them a look a little over-designed. That and maybe the blades seem small or insignificant to the overall look
I respect your own personal preferences around the armor styles, just as I’ve expressed my own interest in them for my demon hunter aesthetic! I enjoy it as a unique take on armor contrasting with other leather wearers. There is almost this cocky, confident vibe to show off not needing leather or other armor to defend ourselves, just vibes, magic, pain, etc. that fits into the class identity. Throwback to when Veng’s resource was literally called Pain, and you’d get it from being hit? That was such a cool mechanic that I am very sad they got rid of. Shirtless tanking is hardcore x11 when you’re fueled by pain.
To your point though about ‘almost every set’ being that way, if you look on the masculine body model under ‘sets’ in appearances tab, for the majority of Shadowlands and Bfa, all of the raid tier completely covered up the body, and most overworld sets do as well even now. Granted, this seems to be because they made leather wearers have the same mogs instead of unique tier? Which. Rude. In Legion, the overworld leather had a unique shirtless look for DH compared to my rogue. So I haven’t had any incentive to mog farm now in those expacs for my DH, and the little skin they showed for some of the DF tier was just kinda whatever and not the vibe.
So while you may not prefer the new anniversary set, I’m super hype for a return to the real Illidari DH vibe roots, even if it’s a little clunky for me. But that’s personal preference, that I haven’t enjoyed all these giant 3D chunky pieces on leather armors the last few expacs.
that’s true they do cover most of the body and do not fit the whole minimum armor vibe dhs have although none of those are class sets or are meant to be class specific so the theme doesn’t really fit any classes that can wear them(including rogue druid etc). if you just mean in general though and not class specific yeah i completely agree with you.
Another reason it feels like there’s a lack of demon hunter style gear is because as soon as the class was introduced any class specific style designed gear stopped being made.
even though its not my preference I know its others so its good that those who want more minimal armor style available will have the option for it. Honestly when they were first introduced I was hoping they would utilize the classes unique use of horns tattoos and other demonic features as armor styles instead of regular armor for tier sets piece styles
You’re right and you should say it. We should have demon looking aesthetics. Especially now that the Legion is essentially a non existent threat in game, DH are basically the last remaining connection to the history and legacy of the Legion. I like having other things that fit within the theme of raids and aesthetics of the current raid tier or whatever, since every class gets those, that’s fine. But it feels like they don’t even try to give them a little bit of demon hunter flair. Prime example: DKs almost always get cool undead, bones, rot, skulls, etc.
The coolest most demon hunter looking set since Legion was the DF Amirdrassil look, but I must say, I’m not sure what the skulls were supposed to be? They looked like the skulls of the cool dragon things in the maw, not any demons.
I have been and will continue to use the DH set that you get from doing the DH intro quest
I haven’t seen anything at all that fits the fantasy better yet
