What class are they? Or are they a mix? I can’t tell if they are a mage or a shaman of some sort.
I’d say they’re a specialized flavor of Shaman. They focus heavily on Water and Air but don’t really touch Fire and Earth.
The beauty of Tidesages is that they really could be any number of classes because they are so eclectic. They harness the elements like shamans, but they are also a religious order like priests or monks. They also use magic-like spells. So any of these classes could be a Tidesage. Of course, if you want the official armor, you’ve got to be a clothie. I play a shaman Tidesage who is a bit of a rebel and wears very unorthodox clothing… when she can get away with it. During serious RP events, I wear the cloth robe though.
I’d say they’re shamans.
It’s my time.
I don’t see any other lore-inspired reasons to justify the option of making a Kul Tiran shaman other than Tidesages, so that must be what they are.
Could probably represent one well as a Frost Mage too if you were inclined. They get the Stormsong set and water elementals that match exactly what Tidesages use.
I think they are a mix of both Shamans and Mages
I would play them as Frost Mages because they do command Water Elementals.
Kul Tiran Tidesage here. Yeah we’re frost mages.
Normal Tidesages use:
- magic to trap and release the dead souls into the ocean
- summon water elementals and talk with the ocean (Wavespeakers)
- can control storms (Galecallers)
- can use runes to shield ships from harm via moonlight (Ironsides)
- can use arcane magic to make bridges over water
Kthir/Void Tidesages:
- all of the above
- Void Portals
- Tentacle summoning
- can enslave the minds of people and also somehow control entire ships
- can summon Krakens and Nraqi
- can turn people into Nraqi
- can summon water elementals with void overtones
To put it into gameplay, a tidesage is a shaman, mage, and priest rolled into one package . . . But they are none of these things. Yea tides ages are an example of something we the players can’t do, as they are basically an “npc class” kinda like tinkers, dark rangers, necromancers, and bards.
Yea npcs laugh at our limited choices.
Like these bullet points. Thanks for organizing these.
That tint matches with worgen heritage armor, it’s neat.
But nobody (exaggerate) plays a worgen mage so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
Honestly, worgen casters just strike me as weird. If I were gonna be a worgen it would be something physical to make use of that ferocious demeanor. xD
Shaman, just one focused on water.
Tidesages are closer to Arcane-based mages than shamans to me.
The Arcane school of Conjuration can create elemental-like spells that resemble the elements, but have Arcane make.
What makes a Shaman in the WoW universe is that the Shaman commutes with the spirits of the elements in bargain for their primal power. There are some water elementals evidenced in Kul Tiras, but are they really elementals, or just constructs created by the Arcane?
I’d wager the latter.
So to close it out, I think Tidesages are mages at the core.
