When I met someone in the Kovork Kostume, I was surprised that such an item existed and just knew I had to have it.
After months and months of kills across multiple characters of both factions, with nothing to show for it, I decided to look up the item again.
I am used to items with low drop rates (I was farming such an item alongside Kovork Kostume, in fact) and would not come to the bug report forums just because I’m not getting lucky.
That’s why what I found when I looked up Kovork Kostume stood out to me. Something extremely weird seems to be going on with this item. When you look it up, there seem to be two kinds of reports:
- People who get the item every time they kill Kovork.
- People who have been farming him for months with nothing to show for it.
That simply doesn’t add up. If it was just rare, the people who have it drop wouldn’t be getting it every time. If it was fairly common but not guaranteed, there wouldn’t be so many people who have yet to see it drop after months. Granted, the Warfront cycle means that you can get loot from him less often than most rare mobs in the game, but either of those outcomes being true by coincidence seems astronomical.

The WoWHead comments on the item agree with the above posts. Several commenters who have tried it a large number of times with no drop, and one commenter annoyed that they keep having to delete it since they get it every time.
I know these aren’t very many data points, but they’re at least from multiple sources and from different times, and that includes WoWHead’s drop rates, which are calculated by data collection and not simply word of mouth.
If the drop rate was really 59%, as is currently reported, it wouldn’t make sense to see multiple reports of “I get it every time” versus “I’ve done it 68 times and got nothing”. One or two reports, maybe, because random is random, but this is exceptionally unlikely even for that. However, 59% does sound closer to a comparison between “about half the playerbase always gets the item, about half the playerbase never does.”
In the grand scheme of things this is a really small thing, but as someone who’s been waiting for playable ogres since before the game came out, it really sucks to have this one bone thrown our way seemingly impossible for me to get.
