Korthia and Maw content in 10.0 and beyond

I had come back to Shadowlands after taking a far-too-long break since Cataclysm. On the one hand this is good, because I am having a bunch of fun exploring the content I missed.

However, it does mean that I am a bit rusty when it comes to how Blizzard generally handles the end of one expansion and the start of the next. I do know that in the past not all expansion features survive into the next expansion.

So my question is, does anyone have a feel as to whether or not the current Korthia/Maw content will survive into 10.0? I’m thinking primarily covenant assults, Korthia rares/treasures, the Box of Many Things, Torghast in general, etc. There are a fair number of achievements, pets, mounts, etc. associated with some of these things and I am just wondering if any of it will still be do-able after the next expansion releases. I wouldn’t expect 100% of it to be, just wondering how much.

Korthia will be about as active as the broken shore was when Argus released.

Expect no more than 20 people in the zone at a time.

If we’re speculating, based on previous expansions, I would say almost none of it will stay relevant in the next iteration. I can’t speak on behalf of the staff, but it seems the idea is to have a new world system per expansion to keep things fresh and engaging. Take this with a grain of salt though, since they are bringing back the Mage Tower

Considering Maw is already dead except for bi-weekly assaults, I’d say no.

When 10.0 hits, there will be a great sucking sound of toons fleeing Oribos, The Maw, Korthia, etc. All of the covenants will be empty. The blue people will just stand watch of a dead world.

This is normal.

If it’s anything like before, new toons will be leveling through SL (but never get to Korthia and likely spend no time in the Maw), before they leave it behind to the New Lands.

Nothing new here, it’s always worked like this.

I expect the rares and treasures will survive and be doable, but will be deliberately made much less rewarding to compensate for either a now-obsolete currency or to discourage players from continuing to farm old content.

I can’t imagine which rewards they would need to nerf? The socketing items already specify which season they apply to so it’s not like the option to go back and farm those would stay open, and everything else there is expansion specific too.

OP, everything will most likely stay exactly as is now, just like you can go do the N’zoth invasions now if you ever get the urge. There just won’t be as many / any people in the zone.

It will still be there if that is what you’re asking.

If Blizzard follows their formulaic development process, it won’t be relevant to progression in 10.0 and beyond though.

Visions still exist. Legion and BfA assaults still happen. They’re not going to delete two zones.

Thank you for a straightforward answer to a straightforward question. Yeah, I do realize that it won’t be as populated, or relevant. I just was wondering if it will be there. Thank you!

The only thing on your list I can see them maybe axing would be the Torghast “challenge” floor rewards like Twisting Corridors and the new one in 9.1 that I haven’t bothered with yet.

I think it’s unlikely since they usually would have said something by now if those were going to be removed in 10.0, but there is precedent so I would focus on getting those complete if you haven’t already.

Yeah, I haven’t completed those yet. I haven’t done TC since before 9.1 although I did earn the Corridor Creeper during 9.0, which was nice. I’ve been kind of keeping Torghast low-key lately, mostly doing it just for Many Things research but at some point I’m going to have to step that up. Maybe once I’ve gotten everything I want out of Korthia (not there yet but closing in).

When 10.0 hits, none of that will be relevant. However, all of it will still be there and available for you if you still want to farm collectibles
