I’m going to get flak for this, but from the perspective of someone who just wants the mount what is the point in participating?
Apparently last year you could get 2 timewalking badges per turn in, which makes sense. Now the only way to get the badges are to do the capture the flag dailies, which are near impossible unless youre ignoring your team and spamming the flag, and winning / losing.
Why would I not just afk in this? I’m not the only person doing this for the mount and couldn’t care less about the results of the BG. If turn ins gave badges at least there would be a reason to participate and help the team.
Am I missing something?
If things are the same as last year, then winning gives more badges than losing, so you are rewarded more for winning.
You get double the badges from winning than you do for losing. Winning gives 10% of a progress bar (if this is the same as last year).
Worth noting that by AFK’ing you aren’t helping yourself or your team. I know when I go in there I will be doing everything in my power to keep games going for hours so if you choose to go the route of the least resistance please just do the dailies and AFK out so someone that will actually contribute may join.
There are 20 days remaining for this event. Even if you go in and just do one daily that rewards 10 badges each day, you’ll get the mount without spending hours afking in the cave. There are multiple dailies so you can speed this up by doing each of them once and then leaving.
zero.
in fact, you’re wasting time by participating or doing daily quests.
I say this in every single korrak’s ive been in, but it’s fastest to make level 10 allied race alts, and spam queue-delete after turnig in the ‘talk to the quartermaster’ quest.
play alliance. make an allied race alt of whatever you prefer. queue up for the 2 minutes or whatever you have to wait to get in. Talk to the quartermaster. bam. 5 %. /afk. Delete. make another.
takes like 1 hour to get the mount.
If you’re really opportunistic. Make a lv 10 you’re comfortable on, and if you get into a fresh AV, do the capture the mine quest too. bam. 10% done. afk out. start over.
imagine being in a pve raid/instance and not participating but expecting a mount reward for your trouble.

Those badges earned in Korrak’s needed to be earned on one character to get the mount previously. I know, I earned several. Did they change it so now they are account-wide?
It’s fine to afk in it, no need to feel bad or “ashamed”. Probably 30-40% of the Alliance team is afk anyways, adding 1 more player to that isn’t the end of the world. Lots of Alliance are afking it.
I find this bg pretty boring this time around, doesn’t feel nearly as interesting as the last time. The enthusiasm/hype just isn’t there anymore now that they nerfed the leveling XP into the ground.
Last year when you could get “free” leveled-up alts just for showing up, the place was buzzing with activity and the games were way more fun.
imagine playing a bg based on how much xp you get.

this is why we need to keep pvp and pve seperate how would you like relying on this guy
Just stating facts, the place was “alive” and buzzing with activity last year. This year the enthusiasm/hype just isn’t there.
id say that’s because most of the player base cant que for it and those who can are lagging out. also if the scaling isnt fixed its a 50 only bg.
Blizzard designed the reward system to give you the mount based on timewalking badges, and then removed all methods to get the badges that’d have you participating.
Like, a lotta people don’t want to PVP for the sake of PVP- they just want the high res Ram mount.

…or they want free XP for their alts.
Most players expect to “get something” or they just lose interest in the content/don’t care. Rewards and incentives matter. No one likes to walk away empty-handed.
Well, that too. I wont claim to understand why but after making it super easy to hit the level cap Blizzard’s suddenly trigger shy about a once-a-year event that would make it even easier to get that alt you want to main to max level.
Korraks could have stayed true to form and not reward XP, just Mounts/Gear.
What a scary thought on how many less players would queue, right??
I am bewildered that someone who claims to enjoy PvP would advocate for people to actively afk inside battlegrounds “because other people do it”, later adding they find the bg boring. Perhaps it’s boring because 30-40% of your opposition is afk…?

The OP was asking whether it’s ok to afk in this particular bg, which it is. And yes, lots of Alliance players are “doing it anyways”.
I took a peek in there yesterday (under merc mode) and saw tons of Alliance just standing around afk on their mounts. Only like 8-10 Alliance were actually pushing south to the objectives, the rest (excluding the afk ones) were running around mid randomly or fighting NPCs.
Considering that Alliance almost always loses Korrak’s Revenge AV, it probably is more efficient to just lose fast and collect whatever welfare badges drop at the end. Getting a win is unlikely, and might take hours… versus getting some welfare badges for a quick 20-25 minute loss.
Here’s a screenshot from the last game I played:

Notice the 0 offense? Snowfall capped? Almost no one pushing objectives or trying?
Who wouldn’t afk this?
The entire genre is based on encouraging people to continue to participate by rewarding them for their participation. This applies to every player. It’s not “I earned my stuff” at the mythic level but “those players only get participation trophies they don’t deserve”.
Everything anyone ever earned in game is a participation reward to keep them participating.
AFK’ing is not ok in any bg. Your limited experience of the games, where only a select handful of servers could even queue, is not indicative of how the rest of the event will go when people can actually participate.
Not everything needs to be about rewards. I know I’ll certainly be queuing just because I like the environment and will be slaying thousands of people over the course of the event.
Encouraging people to AFK because other people do it is stupid. “Hey officer, I saw other people speeding so I did it too!”
imagine doing a battleground while leveling that doesn’t include xp
