Turning in research has nothing to do with the campaign. Just do the quests to rescue the archivist.
Better yet, just add an option to the cash shop where someone can buy a skip to everything so they can just sit afk at the bank in maxed out mythic raid gear with the best mount.

It should all be skippable, really – just everyone accrue a fixed amount of research every day automatically, no activity in Korthia required.

My first thought on this was, “Yes please, I will resub for this.” But then I remembered BFA and how much I wanted it to end and SL to come out.
Next expansion could be Dragon Isles.
